What you'll do

  • Work with HEB Digital teams to provide data solutions for ecommerce, supply chain, store operations, finance, and marketing reporting and analytics platforms

  • Contribute to existing data platforms and implement new technologies

  • Develop a deep understanding of HEB's data and become a domain expert

  • Ensure data is distributed in a timely and accurate manner

  • Make data discoverable and accessible to business users

Who You Are

  • 4 years of data engineering experience

  • Proficient with data technologies (e.g. Spark, Kinesis, Kafka, Airflow, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Presto, etc.)

  • Experienced with designing and developing ETL data pipelines using tools such as Airflow, Nifi, or Kafka.

  • Strong understanding of SQL and data modeling

  • Understanding of Linux, Amazon Web Services (or other cloud platforms), Python, Docker, and Kubernetes

  • Experienced with common software engineering tools (e.g., Git, JIRA, Confluence, or similar)

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or comparable field or equivalent experience

  • A proven understanding and application of computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and data modeling

VIEW JOBS 10/15/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-01-13T00:00 <p>We are looking for a hybrid technical and at times customer-facing individual to spearhead the creation of a new Data and Analytics team at Vertebrae. This role will be responsible for all facets of the data pipeline, from event emission on the client site, to real-time data streams, data lake management, data storage and customer facing analytics dashboard creation.</p><p><br></p><p>This role will begin as a sole contributor, working closely with customer-success teams and the existing engineering teams. As our company continues to grow, the opportunity exists for this role to continue to grow into engineering leadership as new headcount is added.</p><p><br></p><p>The ideal candidate will have 4+ years' experience in a data-engineering or related role.</p><p>Data science and statistics experience is a plus.</p><p><br></p><p>This role will begin remote due to COVID related restrictions, but will convert into a traditional on-site role once all local, state and federal governmental guidance dictates a safe return to office environments.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul> <li>Design, implement and manage the entire data pipeline from both code and devops perspectives.</li> <li>Coordinate at times with external clients in order to propose and design analytics strategies, including custom reporting asks.</li> <li>Create automated tasks, perform maintenance including launching new clusters and perform ETL jobs.</li> <li>Build and manage custom dashboards within SiSense / Periscope or other BI tools</li> <li>Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS ‘big data’ technologies.</li> <li>Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.</li> <li>Assist with compliance, data security and other best practices from an InfoSec standpoint.</li> <li>Work with the front-end engineering teams in order to adjust which events are emitted and logged.</li> <li>Have total ownership of the data strategy including business needs, schema changes etc.</li> </ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><ul> <li>Very advanced SQL knowledge including items such as: triggers, stored procedures, subqueries, partitioning, ETL rollups and hand-writing complicated queries.</li> <li>Experience with AWS, especially its big data offerings, including Redshift, Snowflake, Kinesis, Elasticsearch, Athena and RDS.</li> <li>Experience with DevOps and deployment management including CloudFormation and infrastructure-as-code.</li> <li>Experience with at least one scripting language used in a data-engineering scenario such as Python, Node, Scala, Groovy, Java etc.</li> <li>A demonstrated history working with non-technical teams, including external clients, to collaborate and design custom reporting strategies.</li> <li>Experience with BI tools such as SiSense Periscope, Looker etc in order to generate customer-facing dashboards.</li> <li>A product and customer first attitude, willing to work towards an end goal even if the requirements are not well defined.</li> <li>Experience with vanilla JavaScript is a plus.</li> <li>A deep understanding of network protocols such as requests, response codes, HTTP verbs, headers, etc.</li> </ul><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><ul> <li>Snacks + Beverages</li> <li>Unlimited Vacation (discretionary)</li> <li>Catered lunches every Tue + Thu</li> <li>Beer Club/Game Night every other week</li> <li>Wellness policy</li> <li>100% covered Health Insurance</li> <li>401k</li> </ul> Vertebrae Austin TX
