Senior Data Engineer, Enterprise Operations (Hybrid - Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, Or Denver)

Job Description

A few years ago, we began our journey to transform our approach to data and analytics from a batch-centric platform with siloed data plans to our Nordstrom Analytical Platform. NAP is a near-real time, event-based, analytical platform that provides high-quality views of our customers, products, inventory, customer service, fulfillment/logistics, credit, and finances. The Nordstrom data team designs, develops, and maintains software applications and services that support all of the Data Engineering and Analytics business needs to drive the Nordstrom Omni channel experiences.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be working on delivering the strategic vision of critical finance analytics application with a near-real time data platform. Senior data engineers focus on the design and development of highly scalable software applications, services, data pipelines, and database solutions.

A day in the life...

• Designs and develops analytical solutions using in-house and modern technologies for business

• Able to understand data concepts, data models, and data structures and adhere to data principles

• Design and develop data processing pipelines in the data engineering ecosystem using Spark, Flink, Kafka, Presto, etc.

• Collaborate with technical program management, data analysts, data scientists, and business partners to build scalable and durable solutions that drive business outcomes and reduce friction and time to delivery for our users

• Train interns and junior developers in the team

• Ongoing production support, performing on-call support duties

• Owns responsibility for code reviews and drives accountability in following software engineering principles

• Follows and maintains good data ecosystem principles and data quality while building data solutions

• Understanding of CI/CD pipeline, Test coverage, and unit testing

• Partner with analyst stakeholders toward delivering highly effective self- service BI solutions, like Tableau and enterprise data sources

We'd love it if you have...

• 4+ years of professional experience as a data engineer working on highly visible platforms

• 4+ years of experience in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, Python, Scala)

• 3+ years of hands-on experience writing complex, production-quality SQL (we work mostly with BigQuery)

• 3+ years of experience with Databases, SQL, data modeling, data mining, and automated engineering solutions

• Experience with cloud environments GCP, preferred, and AWS

• Experience with distributed systems (Kubernetes, AWS EMR, etc.)

• Experience in developing near real-time data processing solutions using Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming

• Experience with the Spring boot framework

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

California: $114,000-$201,500 annually, Colorado: $114,000-$176,500 annually, Washington: $114,000-$201,500 annually

This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
