This position resides within the U-2 Research & Development Laboratory and is responsible for supporting the Director for Infrastructure. This person is primarily responsible for devising, designing, developing, and fielding technologies to ensure continuity of global Mission Planning Cell (MPC) connectivity in both permissive and denied communications environments. shall provide thought leadership around the technologies and approaches to enterprise data, including master data management (MDM), data governance, data strategy, cost-optimization, innovation, and efficiency. The Senior Data Architect will assess current data needs, its architecture and tools, and propose plans for improvements to support business growth in the most optimal way. This position will drive data virtualization initiatives and determine appropriate delivery mechanisms to support data mining and gathering of client insights. This person will ensure data quality and drive improvements to data management processes, data storage, data consumption, and data security to better meet the needs of the business and clients. This role will interface directly with Development, Maintenance, and Planning teams for design and implementation of data architecture solutions and collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute enterprise data strategy. This person will provide architectural leadership in shaping strategic, business technology approaches, with an emphasis on application architecture. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Define and communicate the architecture standards, guidelines, and statements of direction by facilitating the design and establishment of architecture standards or controls.

  • Review and contribute to architecture standards or controls which allow for successful mission execution.

  • Create architectures for large scale, high-impact, or high-cost technology solutions. Work in concert with the Senior Enterprise Architect to devise, design, develop, and field technologies to ensure continuity of global MPC connectivity in both permissive and denied communications environments.

  • Lead the development of solution architectures, roadmaps, and system transition plans to align MPC requirements with applications, data, integration, and/or infrastructure architecture.

  • Collaborate with Development, Maintenance, and Planning Teams to create architecture artifacts (for example, logical, conceptual, physical) to guide detailed design.

  • Participate in the adoption of new high-impact technologies by researching technical trends and developments.

  • Assist in the selection of new technologies.

  • Collaborate with MPC and Squadron leadership and participate in making decisions regarding new technology.

  • Demonstrate a full understanding of the architecture best practices for assigned domain(s) and educate others throughout the organization on the function of architecture methodologies, governance, and standards by serving as a subject matter expert across Development, Maintenance, and Planning teams. Presents to internal and external audiences to include senior leadership.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (with 5 years relevant work experience) or Master's Degree (with 3 years relevant work experience) in a related technical field.

  • Significant experience in IT solution delivery, serving as a data architect or data engineer with a focus on the design, implementation, and operations of distributed applications.

  • Significant experience in database design and data modeling of complex data stores.

  • Significant experience with hands-on database programming.

  • Significant experience with DBA development.

  • Significant experience defining data architecture in a corporate or enterprise environment.

  • Significant experience working with data analysis tools and/or techniques.

  • Significant experience in the design of target state architecture in a corporate or enterprise environment.

  • Significant experience in the design and integration of relational databases.

  • Significant experience with data architecture modeling techniques.

  • Significant experience translating solution requirements into technical architecture requirements.

  • Possess an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI and SAP eligibility

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in a related technical field

  • Experience with Air Force/DoD clients, ISR/IC communities, and/or Multi-Domain Command & Control.

  • Experience with open architectures, agile/waterfall methodologies, data center/internet exchange and/or cellular infrastructures, and infrastructure in denied operating environments.

  • Knowledge of virtualization or certification.

  • Knowledge in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
