In addition to its single-family rental platform, Amherst's debt business pursues two distinct credit strategies in mortgage-backed securities and commercial real estate lending. Over its 25-year history, Amherst has developed a deep bench of research and technology talent, and leverages data and analytics at every stage in the asset lifecycle to improve operations and preserve long-term value for our investors and the more than 188,000 residents the firm has served.

We are looking to hire an experienced Senior Data Analyst to support business growth and redefine data success in one of our investment banking business units. You'll be part of a high-impact, high-visibility, high-growth team and will lead the optimization of operational and financial reporting for the Debt Capital Markets and Asset Liability Management teams (DCM/ALM).

With a "CEO Mindset," you'll be looked to for guidance and leadership in navigating technical and data ambiguity, directly impacting the business' P&L through automation of asset debt reporting, development of portfolio debt optimization tools, and integration of AI/ML into daily debt management operations. You'll have access to one of the nation's leading single-family asset data sets, and will work alongside all levels of the organization and their stakeholders at the world's largest banks to ideate, test, and iterate on projects and programs designed to advance our business operations to current and next-gen capabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Connect functional business needs to scope technical capabilities and solutions by:

  • Working directly with business leaders to catalog current state operations and identify business problems that can be solved leveraging advanced analytics or data automations

  • Owning the roadmapping, scoping, and execution of business solutions - including regular reporting automations, building net-new data applications, and conducting data-driven strategic analyses

  • Identifying and executing opportunities to develop analytical solutions across all levels of the data analytics maturity curve: descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive

Create sound data products through responsible data selection and governance, including:

  • Working with business process owners and operational data sets to identify best-available data for DCM/ALM operations

  • Supporting (and owning, where applicable) data governance, report governance, and application governance with respect to DCM/ALM operations and functions

  • Identifying and capturing data risk, with latitude to lead and own mitigation and issue resolution

Be an enterprise leader and good teammate by:

  • Supporting the broader Analytics & Insights team on technology and data initiatives, including the migration of legacy data and processes to a new Databricks environment

  • Regularly presenting findings, recommendations, and program updates to the highest levels within the company

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related quantitative discipline.

  • Experience directly related to the job duties can be substituted for educational requirements.

  • 3+ years' experience in Investment Banking industry

  • 5+ years' experience analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and making recommendations; financial services /investment banking industry experience is preferred

  • 5+ years of SQL experience, Databricks, SQL Server, Spark SQL.

  • 3+ years of Python experience, Databricks, PySpark

  • 3+ years of Databricks experience

  • Experience providing actionable insights by uncovering the stories contained in data

  • Experience with presenting management dashboards and reports

  • Experience communicating technical and non-technical requirements to business and technology team

  • Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced environment while meeting established timelines

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to express relevant, technical concepts in a clear and concise manner

  • Ability to see the big picture and effectively analyze complex issues

  • Strong technical ability, willingness to learn and passion to evolve your skills with advances in Technology

  • Analytical mindset and passion for gleaning actionable insights from raw data

"Nice-to-haves":

  • Familiarity with SCRUM or similar agile discipline

  • Experience as a project, product, or program manager

  • Experience managing or leading teams of analysts

  • Knowledge of advanced data science concepts such as ML, AI, or NLP is a plus

  • "CEO" mindset - radical ownership of results in an ambiguous environment
