Job Summary
The primary objective of the Senior Credit Officer (SCO) is to work closely with the assigned Market Presidents in helping to meet the bank's loan growth objectives, while simultaneously adhering to the bank's risk tolerance appetite and corporate credit culture. The SCO has significant loan authority and makes decisions for all types of commercial banking credits or advances credits exceeding their loan authority to the next loan authority level of approval.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

Make decisions for all types of commercial banking credits or advance credits exceeding their loan authority to the next loan authority level of approval.
Partner with the Chief Credit Officer, Director of Commercial Credit, Portfolio Managers (PMs), and the line to efficiently and effectively leverage the credit process to include pre-flight discussions and the credit decision, to ensure timely client response with appropriate due diligence relative to the complexity of the credit request.
Make joint calls with the Relationship Managers (RMs) as deemed appropriate to develop a strong partnership within assigned markets and work closely with the Market President to discuss market loan pipeline reports and ensure proper loan servicing of the commercial loan portfolio.
Review and determine appropriate risk assessment of commercial loan requests, including an appropriate level of analysis of the borrower's business, management, industry, and financial condition of borrower to ensure credit is appropriately underwritten and structured.
Provide guidance/mentoring to both credit support personnel and Relationship Managers on risk management issues, including policy and procedure changes/additions, concentration limit levels, and other various market conditions that may arise.
Discuss credits with Bank Examiners and Loan Reviewers.
Serve on the bank's executive loan committee and chair the committee in the absence of the chairman.
May serve on commercial, credit and loan operations user groups to enhance the client service and risk management process.
Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
Provide leadership of assigned team, lead efforts in recruitment, interviewing, and training employees, plan, assign, and direct departmental work.
Coordinate interdepartmental goals to ensure alignment with company goals and vision.
Coach and provide ongoing performance feedback to employees, set realistic and measurable performance goals, and ensure employees have appropriate professional development opportunities. Effectively manage performance and assist employees to meet established company standards and expectations.
Adhere to all corporate policies and procedures, Federal and State regulations, and laws.
Complete all mandatory annual compliance training.
Follow regulatory requirements including those pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), and OFAC to assist in the identification, detection and determent of money laundering and other unlawful activities, as well as regulations pertaining to lending and consumer compliance to include fair lending laws.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements
Education:

Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field required.

Required:

15+ years of banking experience required, including 10+ years in commercial credit underwriting with signature loan approval experience.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
Strong credit skills across all areas of commercial lending, including commercial real estate, commercial and residential construction loans, letter of credit issuances, C&I lending, religious organization and non-profit financing, and other fund accounting related credit requests.
Experience with SWAP derivative financing and loans involving government tax credits.
Familiarity with government lending programs such as 504 programs and SBA loans.
Experience with commercial real estate appraisal reviews and assessments of value, including environmental issues that could impact real estate values.
Demonstrated leadership skills in determining and recommending appropriate solutions on credit issues, including problem credits.
Familiarity with federal bank regulations and laws governing commercial lending and real estate appraisals.
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to work independently.
PC proficiency and general comfort level with leveraging technology within the underwriting and approval process. Proficient in Microsoft Office products
