The Senior Counsel for Commercial Contracts and Partnerships will be part of Virgin Hyperloop One's Legal Department. This position will be a member of the commercial contracts team. The commercial contracts team has a broad scope and is responsible for most of the company's contracting, including vendor and consultant contracts and facilities contracts. This position will have a particular focus on crafting and executing Virgin Hyperloop One's technology co-development and procurement strategies. They will work closely with the engineering teams and commercial teams in implementing transactions core to the company's mission of delivering a revolutionary transportation technology.


  • Coordinate with Engineering Leads, Project Development teams, and IP director to ensure contracting strategy for subsystems and major components dovetails with business and project development strategies

  • Lead negotiations and contracting relating to technology co-development and strategic partnerships

  • Participate in team responsible for negotiating, drafting, and reviewing a steady flow of agreements that include:

o commercial contracts and technology transactions, including co-development agreements, master service agreements, statements of work, and NDAs;

o marketing and branding-related agreements;

o service provider agreements for Accounting and Finance; and

o employment documents that are related to intellectual property and confidentiality.

  • Responsible for positively moving transactions forward, while protecting the company's interests and ensuring appropriate visibility across functions

  • Must be creative in seeking solutions that work for both our company and counterparties;

  • Some travel may be required


  • Strong business judgement, who may be relied on to make decisions with significant legal and commercial implications

  • Detail-oriented, problem solver who works well in a team environment and has excellent communication skills.

  • Experienced manager

  • Strong work ethic, high integrity, and experience with technology companies

  • Ability to work on several major projects simultaneously with tight deadlines


  • JD from accredited law school; qualified in CA or another state (and willing to secure in-house counsel registration in CA)

  • 7+ years experience in top-tier law firm and/or in-house at a dynamic technology or transportation company

  • Expert in complex technology co-development, IP licensing, partnership and joint venture agreements

  • General experience in commercial contracts for a technology company, and managing teams

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements and lead complex initiatives


  • In-house experience

  • Business knowledge of emerging technologies, construction, aerospace, aviation, and rail

  • Experience with electromagnetic technologies, software development, and controls systems

  • Experience with real property leases
