The Senior Cost Engineer position reports directly to the Cost Engineer and is responsible for developing should cost estimates for parts and cost deltas for all engineering changes. Leads all efforts to determine and document cost structures for selected commodities in various module groups and works with Engineers, Buyers and Finance in cross-functional teams tasked with achieving the best purchased costs for parts and tooling for the company.

The position will work in our Irvine, CA headquarters.


  • Gather, analyze and interpret product cost, financial, statistical and technical data.

  • Monitor individual cost request timing, manage process to meet established timing.

  • Work involves accuracy, timeliness and the ability to work within the established policies and practices.

  • Assemble and explain all relevant information in support of business cases. Develop viable alternatives and sensitivity analysis of risk factors.

  • Prepare, analyze and present business cases to management.

  • Analysis of specific product cost, comparable product comparisons, capacity analysis and review of multiple inputs and verification of accuracy.

  • Plans and coordinates required cross-functional meetings to review progress on individual projects.

  • Flexibility to work on critical projects in off standard hours as required.

  • Develop and Perform special analysis as needed.

  • Suggest, develop and implement continuous improvement ideas.

  • Ascertain best practices and cost models for Cost Estimating and implement within the team.

  • Understand commodity part manufacturing and component cost elements.

  • Supports the sourcing of "best value" products through domestic, international, and LCC suppliers. Specialist should possess a basic understanding of product flow through import/export and customs/broker process.

  • Apply VA/VE and Cost Estimation techniques to drive mass production and prototypes costs reduction in close collaboration with Module buyers.

  • Review, Analyze and Understand key economic influences in the supply chain and make macro-economic risks are effectively considered in BOM cost.

  • Performs cost analysis with a thorough understanding of cost factors.

  • Comply with established corporate and purchasing policy and processes

  • Compiles and evaluates data for various weekly, monthly, and annual reports (cost reduction, market fluctuation, LCC, supplier ratings, supplier scrap, budget variance, minority sourcing, supplier expenditure, etc.).

  • Attends departmental training, company meetings and HR training awareness sessions.

  • Communicates frequently with internal and external contacts on various issues.

  • Performs other duties as necessary.


  • Bachelor degree or equivalent Supply Chain Management experience.

  • Supply Chain Management

  • Finance

  • Engineering (preferred)

  • Eight or more years of automotive experience (OEM or Tier 1)

  • Cost Estimating Expertise/Experience is required.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and cost structures is required.

  • Knowledge of Cost Estimating processes, procedures, and software and the ability to implement effectively and in a timely basis.

  • Willingness to travel as needed.

  • Fact based negotiation skills.

  • Must display ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans.

  • Must be able to accept personal responsibility and accountability for major analytical and planning assignments.

  • Communicates directly with management and cross-functional leaders as required.

  • Strong teamwork skills. Able to develop consensus and move the program forward. Develop win-win situations.

  • Time management skills.

  • SAP Experience desired, not required.

  • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.
