What you will do:

The Senior Cost Accounting Analyst is responsible for the ongoing analysis of inventory and cost of goods sold, main area of focus is milk production and related sales, commodity cheese, whey production and sales. Will provide financial leadership in ongoing process development, documentation, conversion and implementation of a cost accounting systems and controls.

Will provide accounting support to various operating groups and will be instrumental in maintaining accurate work-in-progress and perpetual inventory records, setting standard cost, manufacturing and material variance reporting, budgeting, forecasting of costs, assisting in analysis generation and its related accuracy working closely with and for the Cost Accounting Manager. Additionally, will work closely with and support the appropriate senior management and other staff members, to include: FP&A, Dairy Commodity Risk, Operations, Supply Chain, Category Management, and R&D.

Will work with Corporate Finance and IS/Integration staff to ensure consistency in reporting and processes and in completing assigned special projects. Will provide financial operations expertise to appropriate managers and will frequently interface with the company's external auditors.

Here's a day in the life:

  • Support and assist the Cost Accounting Manager in accomplishing the requirements as set by the company which will include ensuring that all accounting entries are timely, accurate, and comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Implement, monitor and provide continuous improvement in the standard work procedures for appropriate financial operations procedures and methods. Conduct and analyze audits of financial performance and prepares reports.

  • Participate in relevant Bill of Material (BOM) audits, maintenance and review for manufactured items and prepare cost estimates for new products. Perform standard BOM cost rolls for finished products manufactured and purchased along with cost change analysis.

  • Develop, maintain and review standard costs for materials, ingredients, finish goods and purchase for resale items.

  • Perform intercompany accounting procedures and operational return on investment analysis.

  • Mentor and help develop other analysts at the direction of the Cost Accounting Manager

  • Develop, maintain and review operational support allocation matrix.

  • Perform a much deeper collection and analysis of direct manufacturing and overhead cost with the objective of reducing cost or assisting Operations with more effective return on investments.

Education:

Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or Business Administration is required; MBA degree a plus but not required.

Skills you'll need:

5-7 years of experience in manufacturing accounting, financial analysis and general accounting is required.

Experience in automating and improving processes to gain efficiency, improve accuracy and produce high quality work is required.

High level ERP and system experience is required.

Consumer Packaged Good experience is preferred. Experience with a dairy Cooperative is desirable.

Strong Manufacturing experience is required.

Must have strong knowledge of GAAP and fully understand accounting methodologies.

Dairy industry preferred, specifically milk processing.

What you will do: The Cost Analyst conducts and documents complex financial analysis to assist in strategic financial decisions and plays a key role in supporting and developing overall financial analysis. Analysis areas include, but are not limited to, Cost Accounting, Product Line Analysis, Capital Projects as well as supporting new financial analysis projects as they become available. Here's a day in the life: * Responsible for evaluating current financial performance in several key areas * Review Gross Margins versus budgets and forecasts and provide analysis of variances * Review costs of goods sold, non-dairy make, delivery expenses vs. budget and forecasting using financial modeling * Perform month end closing duties pertaining to COGs and manufacturing make costs, including inventory account reconciliations and other journal entries as needed * Participates in cross-functional teams and provide financial analysis to evaluate investments and process changes. * Reviews economic return for capital project requests * Partners with supply chain to evaluate current logistics costs and evaluate proposals to minimize costs and to better serve customers * Reviews economics of SKU mix for various product lines and recommend changes * Evaluates net income as a result of new product developments working in conjunction with category management and research and development * Provides economic payback analysis for proposed product changes, including packaging changes product line extensions product category extensions, and new products * Understands BOM structure; able to review BOMS for integrity * Review and updates manufacturing standards * Assists the Cost Accounting Manager in preparing monthly forecasts and annual budgets * Provides monthly analysis and explanations on product margins * Supports Manufacturing, Logistics, Supply Chain with the preparation of their annual budgets * Collaborate with external auditors to provide necessary inventory information during year end audits * Act as a team player with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees within all levels of the organization. * Communicate effectively. * Utilize a computer with basic knowledge in Microsoft Office applications, including exceptional knowledge of Excel. * Work under pressure, meet deadlines, produce accurate reports and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously. * Demonstrate excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision. * Supports projects and initiatives in development and refinement of data structure, processes, and metrics in accordance with business requirements. * Assist in analyzing, monitoring, and measuring the quality of master data in accordance with data standards, policies and procedures and implements correction action plans to correct inaccurate data. * Assists with resolution of data integrity issues as requested by business stewards. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: * 2-3+ years of experience in cost accounting, financial analysis and general accounting is required. * Experience in automating and improving processes to gain efficiency, improve accuracy and produce high quality work is required. * ERP and system experience is required; * Consumer Packaged Good experience is preferred and/or Dairy experience is preferred * Manufacturing experience is preferred. * Must have strong knowledge of GAAP and fully understand accounting theory.
