This position has the opportunity to work remote.

The Senior Cost Accountant own the methods and approach for product costing across the business and will work closely with Plant Accountants, Operations Leadership and FP&A. This role ensures the business has policies and procedures in place to deliver accurate and meaningful standard costs and inventory valuation across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and provide guidance on standard operating procedures for cost accounting matters that affect the accounting operations of the plants, such as inventory valuation and product costing.

  • Coordinate with Operations and Plant Managers to update standard costs as required.

  • Form a deep understanding of factory operations to assist management in product costing and inventory valuation. Identify, analyze, and rectify excessive losses, machine inefficiencies, and labor inefficiencies.

  • Assist in the timely and accurate completion of monthly financial close activities, including inventory tracking, journal entry preparation, balance sheet account reconciliations, and management of the cost accounting aspects during the period-end close process.

  • Assist with ensuring accurate accounting for the plant, including the cost of production, and assessing input and output costs, in collaboration with the local plant management team and corporate accounting.

  • Establish professional relationships and collaborate cross-functionally with teams including, but not limited to, FP&A, Plant Managers, Manufacturing Engineers, Product Management, and external auditors.

  • Effectively communicate complex ideas across all organizational levels, both verbally and in writing.

  • Manage tight deadlines, independently organizing and prioritizing work.

  • Demonstrate proven analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Competencies:

  • Demonstrate the ability to independently conduct technical accounting research and possess a comprehensive understanding of US GAAP to provide guidance on matters such as inventory valuation and cost allocation.

  • Ability to discover, own and drive critical issues to resolution, a sense of urgency and tenacity is required.

  • Ability to carefully examine current processes and provide recommendations as needed or create new processes to ensure accurate and complete financial results.

  • Highly analytical and curious with strong attention to detail.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented team player with excellent organizational skills.

  • Must be a self-starter, flexible, and able to work on time sensitive projects without daily supervision.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of management in various departments throughout the company.

  • Willingness to take on and assist with new and varied projects as they arise.

  • Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX or Dynamics 365 a strong plus

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.

Experience

  • Minimum five years of general accounting experience and preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Minimum three years of experience in cost accounting or related role.

Certifications/Designations

  • Active CPA license preferred
