Job Description

Workday is a fast growing Software as a Service (SaaS) company headquartered in the Bay area. We are looking for an outstanding lawyer with 10+ years' of legal experience to join our growing legal team. Based in the HQ office in Pleasanton, the Senior Corporate Counsel, Go To Market, will lead optimization of our global go to market legal strategy across all verticals and business segments, oversee the development and delivery of legal terms that deliver customer oriented solutions, with an emphasis on meeting compliance requirements of highly regulated industries. This lawyer will partner with our existing team of enterprise transactional attorneys as we negotiate complex enterprise transactions and will partner with Workday's team of product attorneys and business functions on defining new offering introductions. This role will also serve as the Go to Market legal lead for M&A strategy and post M&A integration activities and will be responsible for partnering effectively on cross functional initiatives to drive and align our GTM strategy in M&A.

We are seeking a seasoned legal counsel who can manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced and high energy environment. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional judgment and business acumen and be comfortable, effective and persuasive in dealing with customers, partners, senior management, and business and legal stakeholders. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate an aptitude and enthusiasm to drive process and cultural innovation.

  • JD from a recognized U.S. law school and licensed to practice in California, or eligible for in-house registration

  • 10+ years' experience with a leading software or technology company

  • CIPP/E Certification and/or deep understanding of complex global data privacy laws and principles

  • Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements in highly regulated industries such as financial services and healthcare

  • Excellent contract negotiation and drafting skills, comfortable and adept at teaming with sales leadership in fast paced customer facing transactions

  • Attention to detail, willingness to roll up his/her sleeves to get into the details and drive creative solutions but ability to think on the fly and drive efficient deal process and fast decision making

  • Superior business judgment and the ability to address complex opportunities and issues in creative and effective ways

  • Ability to see around corners to identify opportunities and issues in our software space and participate fully with the business teams charting our future sales directions

  • Specific experience in a SaaS, cloud computing, enterprise software or social network environment

  • Significant experience counseling global organizations on commercial and compliance issues

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to create and sustain lasting relationships with customers and management

  • Team player and sense of humor

Job Description Our Product Compliance Legal team advises on the global compliance obligations of our customers and the functionality we build into our product offerings. We partner with a variety of internal stakeholders to ensure that our products support our customers in meeting their compliance obligations. We also partner with the marketing and sales organizations to help craft and deliver Workday's product compliance story. We are looking for Senior Product Compliance Counsel to join us in a role that combines knowledge management, advice and counsel, and a bit of marketing. This role will drive our global regulatory monitoring service, draft and deliver clear, compelling stories, summaries, and other resources to internal and external audiences, and develop a deep understanding of our internal stakeholders' key compliance focus areas. We seek someone who can provide proactive, strategic legal updates and who has the desire and ability to dive into a broad spectrum of legal issues. The role requires superior communications skills across all forms, as this position will drive written content, presentations and trainings, and must be able to form a strong internal network with stakeholders. * At least 8 years of high-quality legal experience in a top-tier law firm and/or in-house with a demonstrated track record of providing deep-dive legal analysis and advice and counsel on regulatory compliance issues (e.g., banking, healthcare, employment law, pharmaceutical, higher education, government, etc.). * Extensive knowledge of U.S. and/or international legal system(s) and legal/regulatory research and monitoring practices required. Knowledge management experience in a legal setting or similar experience supporting programmatic legal research and advice strongly preferred. * Ideal candidate will have speaking experience and excel at creating and delivering compelling, market-facing content, including legal updates, presentations and/or trainings. * Team and solutions-oriented with a partnering mindset. * Business savvy, sense of humor, and commitment to personal integrity. * Creative, detail-oriented, able to exercise exceptional judgment, operate independently, and prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
