The Senior Corporate Counsel will join the Sequoia team at an exciting time as we continue to transform our industry. By working closely with the legal, sales and technology groups, the Senior Corporate Counsel will play a critical role in both revenue-producing activities and establishing technology partnerships as Sequoia continues to expand its portfolio of technology products and professional services in addition to the company's core consulting services. The successful candidate will have strong legal technical skills coupled with a business-orientation and track record in working closely with sales, services and/or technology functions either at a top-tier law firm or in-house legal department.

  • Serving as the primary partner with sales to successfully conclude transactions while protecting the company within legal guidelines.

  • Developing a thorough understanding of Sequoia's business, products, markets, clients and partners to more effectively represent Sequoia and to identify trends to continuously improve transactional processes.

  • Independently leading critical legal transactions and negotiations, which can be complex.

  • Innovating a wide range of complex, value added transactional legal documents as Sequoia rapidly expands its technology products and services, which will include: client-facing revenue agreements; new partner program and other network contract sets; professional services agreements, maintenance programs and other technology and services agreements.

  • Analyzing contract terms and conditions, requirements and special provisions to ensure compliance with appropriate laws and corporate policies

  • Advising product teams on appropriate commercial structure for new product offerings.

  • Depending on background and interest, potentially providing overall leadership for intellectual property asset development and/or IP and privacy protection.

  • Promote a creative and highly-efficient transaction legal transactional capability.


  • Four to six years of corporate or technology transaction legal experience, with some time spent working at a top-tier law firm and then in-house.

  • Able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in an entrepreneurial, fast pace work environment.

  • Highly proactive and able to think through and resolve complex issues in creative, effective manner.

  • Proven team player and consensus builder that takes a business approach to law; experience in working effectively with sales teams is a significant plus.

  • Flexible self-starter and proactive problem solver who can work autonomously and handle significant client contact.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills are essential. Ability to clearly present information, in writing and orally, respond to questions from executives, managers, clients, and other team members with focus on client service is a fundamental requirement for the role.

  • Requires J.D. from a top law school

VIEW JOBS 3/5/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-03T00:00 Senior Corporate Counsel – Consumer Business Unit Legal Team This is an opportunity to join a very dynamic team of creative consumer attorneys who support the Consumer Business Unit (the "CBU"), the providers of Norton and LifeLock branded products and services. Symantec is hiring a Senior Corporate Counsel in the Consumer Legal Team to focus on legal advisory and compliance for the Member Services team, including data and PII protection and management, and insurance aspects of identity theft protection coverage and restoration within the Member Services operations. The focus of this position is to advise and partner with senior business leaders in Member Services, CBU Information Security and IT teams. This position requires collaboration with internal and external legal experts to provide timely and effective legal services to the aforementioned consumer business unit functions. As a member of the CBU Legal Team, you will have the opportunity to address many unique issues and challenges in a fast-paced environment of innovation. Key Responsibilities: * Develop and update policies, procedures and scripting with quality control and compliance monitoring, relating to our Member Service operations. * Provide legal guidance and assist in resolution of consumer issues, complaints, insurance and restoration claims, customer escalations, as well as any channel deals or go to market campaigns which impact standard processes for Member Services. * Partner with Government Affairs team on developing positions regarding proposed regulations impacting our industry and offerings. * Support training and education for Member Service agents for new features in our offerings. * Provide legal guidance on knowledge base docs, call scripts, support agent portal and FAQs. * Contribute to Consumer Legal team efforts to improve internal process and efficiency. * Provide legal guidance and review, draft and negotiate consumer compliance aspects for call center contracts, related support components in partner deals and any other service provider relationships, including focus on data management and PII implications. * Provide transactional support, draft, and negotiate data protection agreements for a variety of complex partner or vendor engagements which use, process or manage PII or other data, as well as flow down requirements for data security. * Provide information security specialist legal advice and subject matter resources required to support contracting efforts, data use policies, data security and management matters or projects across all stakeholders. * Participate with the privacy legal team in the investigation, tracking and remediation of any data compliance matters. * Assist with procedures for vetting and auditing vendors for compliance with the data security policies legal requirements and company standards. * Assist in the design and implementation of compliance programs and initiatives to ensure compliance with consumer laws and data protection requirements under data vendor and other partner contracts, as well as within the operations of Member Services. Qualifications: * At least 5-8 years of relevant legal experience, including supporting and advising businesses on customer support and data protection related concerns, ideally with both a law firm and / or within a fast-paced technology company. * Licensed or eligible to practice law in the State of Arizona or California. * Experience in regulatory consumer law, lending, insurance, identity and/or credit, including CFPB, FTC, FCRA, GLBA, GDPR and working with credit related products and credit services, insurance, identity, security and privacy. * Diligent work style, well organized, detail oriented, strong prioritization skills for delivering results to the Consumer Business Unit. * A strong track record of taking initiative to drive progress and solutions for a fast-paced and dynamic business unit, while managing and leading multiple projects, many of which involve, or impact go to market activities, simultaneously, under deadline pressure and a strong focus on providing solid and timely client service. * Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (written and verbal) that are clear, solution-oriented manner that provides timely status and information to your manager and the business unit leaders you would work with and/or support. * Ability to identify, analyze and resolve complex legal issues, draft and document findings in a complex situation, as well as templates, policies, procedures, and other communications in a straightforward manner, and quickly evaluate and manage the balance of legal and business risk concerns. * Excellent business judgment, ability to think strategically, make timely decisions and give practical, solution oriented and business-oriented advice. * A track record of ability to work within a matrixed organization which is located regionally and ability to collaborate across functional organizations within and outside of the legal department, as you lead projects and address compliance situations and initiatives. * Ability to drive projects and processes that improve efficiencies to help the Consumer Business Unit grow the business in a compliant manner. * #LI-DR1 ======================================== Symantec is an equal opportunity employer.
