Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Competitive Sports, the Senior Coordinator for Competitive Sports oversees the development, promotion, and implementation of a comprehensive program encompassing team and individual intramural sports, club sport organizations, and Rec Sports Youth Camp. This position ensures adherence to risk management procedures, facilitates registration, schedules leagues and tournaments, and enforces policies and procedures. Additionally, this position manages a large team of student staff, and assists in budget management and strategic planning. The Senior Coordinator serves as an integral member of the department's leadership team.

  • Ability to keep sensitive information secure and confidential.

  • Ability to create, compose and edit written records.

  • Computer/keyboarding skills including email, internet research, Microsoft Word and Excel.

Physical Demands

  • Move throughout the 60 Acre Oconee Forest, 440,000 sq. ft. Ramsey Center, Recreational Sports Field Complex, and the Club Sports complex; stand; walk; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; climb up and down ladders and over small retaining walls; walk across narrow accesses such as 1.5' wide trails; swim outdoors; operate department-owned vehicles to do job-related duties and errands.

  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus.

  • Distinguish between non-toxic airflow and noxious odors such as gas.

  • Driving as needed to perform job duties.

Program and Policy Management:

  • Develop, promote and implement a comprehensive competitive sports program of team and individual intramural sports, and club sport organizations and Rec Sports Youth Camp.

  • Implement risk management procedures to include student travel and emergency action plans. Effectively train and empower students to respond appropriately to incidents.

  • Maintain high visibility and accessibility to program participants and staff (may include evenings and weekends).

  • Coordinate registration procedures, schedule leagues, tournaments, and special events.

  • Work collaboratively with other departmental and division staff to define facility needs and schedule appropriately.

  • Develop, interpret, review and enforce policies and procedures related to Intramural and Club Sport activities.

  • Communicate with teams and captains regarding policies and rules, disciplinary procedures and schedules.

  • Submit programmatic assessments each fall and spring semester.

Percentage of time 60 Duties/Responsibilities

Student Personnel Management:

  • Mentor, motivate, and effectively lead Graduate Assistants for Competitive Sports.

  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate approximately 100+ student staff in the positions of program assistants, supervisors, and officials.

  • Actively incorporate Departmental Vision, Mission, and Values into staff training and development.

Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities

Fiscal Management and Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Competitive Sports in developing and managing Competitive Sports program budgets to include payroll, spending, fee allocation procedures and revenue from external programming.

  • Strategically plan programs to incorporate Divisional priorities as they relate to the Student Affairs strategic plan and student learning priorities.

  • Make strategic recommendations for future programs and services.
