GDIT is seeking a Senior Converged Technology Engineer who will be responsible for providing senior level engineering design support to provide enterprise-level data exchange solutions using both Cloud, physical and virtual server hosting, off-site data replication and service level storage solutions; supporting the implementation of VMware, Azure and hardware and operating systems solutions to manage both domestic data centers and overseas posts for high availability and redundancy; daily interactions with government clients related to meeting technical requirements for the Department of State initiatives. Domain knowledge and technical decision-making will have a critical impact on overall project implementation and execution.

Duties include the following:

  • Evaluates, designs, documents, installs, implements, tests, and performs problem isolation and resolution; and monitors, tunes, sets standards and maintains a range of compute, networking, and storage systems.

  • Performs these functions across some, but not all, physical media, Operating Systems, File Systems, protocol stacks & network components.

  • Provides client consulting and training on the design and use of the virtual infrastructure, cloud infrastructure, storage area network systems, and architectures.

  • Plans; researches; evaluates and recommends new equipment and related technologies.

  • Uses monitoring, performance analysis, network management, software and hardware equipment to troubleshoot and isolate problems; gauge performance and activity.

  • Devises solutions to operational problems within the capacity and operational limitations of installed equipment.

  • May develop and execute contingency plans for compute host system, storage, and network related software/hardware failures including isolated and major outages.

  • Update system and process documentation, produce user guides, diagrams, and SOPs as needed.

  • Provides internal consulting, technical guidance, information and support to application developers; computer operations; workstation support; management; and departmental clients

  • Constructs, tests and implements integrated network, hardware and software solutions, distributed computing solutions, and/or physical and logical communications networks for the customer.

Required Experience/Skills/Attributes:

  • Active Top Secret clearance is required.

  • A Bachelor's degree in an information technology or related field OR 10 years of progressive, related experience plus graduate level courses; OR Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree and 7 years related experience in network management.

  • Knowledge and experience with VMware (Design, Build, Operate) or Azure Architectures

  • Knowledge of Integrated Stack infrastructure (VCE Vblock / FlexPod / Nutanix)

  • Knowledge with Large Scale Storage Area Network Systems (Design, Build, Operate) for EMC or NetApp equipment

  • Knowledge of IP Networking VPN's, switching, and routing

  • Knowledge of Microsoft File Systems, Operating Systems and Applications

  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft OS and Wintel systems

  • Systems Engineering background with understanding of Cloud Computing Reference Architecture

Desired Experience/Skills/Attributes:

  • Knowledge with Azure workload deployment, configuration, and maintenance

  • VMware: VCP 6+ Certified, working knowledge of: scripting (i.e Powershell), VROPS, Orchestrator, SRM, , SMVI, VCAC

  • Microsoft Azure solutions certification

  • Compute: Working knowledge of Cisco UCS technologies. Maintain server/blade hardware include failed component replacement. Orchestration experience a plus.

  • Familiarity with Department of State environment (data and voice networks, IT systems, policies and procedures), Foreign Affairs Handbooks (FAHs), Foreign Affairs Manuals (FAMs).

  • Storage: Advance knowledge of NetApp Storage Area Network arrays and associated storage systems.

  • Networking: knowledge and experience with Cisco Network components (switches, routers), with a CISSP, CISCO training 7000/5000/3172/1000

  • ITIL v3.0 Foundations certificate
