The Senior Controls Engineer works with all related Manufacturing plants worldwide, Product Engineering, Technology and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering in automation/equipment controls development/trouble shooting for modernization efforts and evaluates and develops global controls standards for manufacturing. Will work with Technology and Manufacturing to determine what control and feedback systems are required to properly execute and monitor each process for quality and performance, and ensure they are included on equipment specifications.
Primary focus is to develop and implement machine control standards (programmable logic controller, input/output signals, MT connect interface) to integrate process automation with manufacturing business systems.
Develop a functional description of automation solutions, select and specify automation components including: robotic systems, servos, controls, vision systems, and mechanical components.
Commission automation equipment, program (ladder logic, structured text, robot controllers), review or approve electrical, mechanical, pneumatic/hydraulic schematics, and develop database reporting functions.
Support manufacturing, identify opportunities and improve processes through application of new equipment and systems, improved programming techniques, process evaluation/improvements, material handling, and other engineering related areas.
Will provide general controls support for Kennametal's facilities as needed. This could include troubleshooting problems and making enhancements to existing equipment
5+ years' experience specifying and designing electrical, vision, and control systems
2+ years' experience project management, coordinating multiple projects/stakeholders preferred
Bachelor's degree in Engineering field preferred
Exceptional leadership and team work abilities is a must
Experience in Robotic Programming or integrating vision systems into automation is a plus
Must be willing to travel 20-50% globally
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder
