The primary responsibility of the Senior Controls Engineer is to design, program, install, troubleshoot, and support hardware and software for machines and accessories from concept to commercial product for the construction materials testing industry.

What You Will Be Doing

The Senior Controls Engineer's areas of responsibility include the following:

  • Develop applications for new and existing products

  • Continuously enhance and update existing products

  • Support customer installation and upgrades

  • Provide customer technical support

  • Provide internal manufacturing support

What You Need for this Position

  • Four-year degree in Electrical/Controls Engineering, or equivalent

  • Experience specifying, designing, programming, and troubleshooting PLC systems

  • Experience specifying, designing, programming, and troubleshooting embedded systems

  • Experience with RS-232, RS-485, MODBUS, and USB communication protocols

  • .NET programming experience (preferably VB.NET)

  • Experience with database queries (SQL and LINQ) and models

  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems

  • Experience with analog sensors (4-20mA, 0-10V, mV/V, strain gauges)

  • Experience working in industrial environment


  • Experience with wireless protocols and technology (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth)

  • User interface design experience

  • AutoCAD experience

  • Ability to translate standards/procedures into programming algorithms

  • OEM experience

  • Experience working for small company


  • Web development experience

  • Mobile app development experience

  • I/O checkout/commissioning experience

  • Control system startup/commissioning experience

This includes scheduling and coordinating Leopold & Sanitaire Field Service Representatives and third party contract representatives efficiently & economically while driving & supporting value add/value engineering opportunities on products, processes and manufacturing methods. * Maintain the field service schedule including all mechanical & controls field service assignments including timely and accurate completion of field service activity reports for Leopold and Sanitaire. * Schedule warehouse/maintenance personnel. * Administrate tracking of Field Service labor hours in ERP system (Manfact) including assisting employees with ADP time input, managing overtime, coordinating and reconciling paid services for 3rd party contracted services. * Engage and schedule third party contract technicians and contractors when in-house work-load capacity is exceeded. * Consult contractors, engineers, and Field Service Representatives on equipment installation, troubleshooting, testing, report writing, training, and installation certification. * Assist the Service Manager in carrying out an effective Service Department budget while managing expenses within the established guidelines. * Driving and supporting Operational engineering opportunities as required. * Assure compliance with all established personnel & safety policies and procedures. Perform supervisory personnel functions including but not limited to performance management, hiring, disciplinary action, etc. * Other Duties as assigned by manager Additional Responsibilities: * Administrate Field service related product & process improvements * Drive a continuous improvement environment with the Filed Service Representative, service related documentation and Environmental Health & Safety.
