DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: St.
Charles Health System's Value Improvement Practice is a dynamic team of caregivers who have a passion for helping others improve the care we deliver. Utilizing Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies and tools, the VIP team engages caregivers and providers in using scientific, evidence-based problem solving to find better ways to deliver a safe, quality, value-enhanced healthcare experience.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Senior Continuous Improvement Consultant (SCIC) at St.
Charles Health System (SCHS) provides coaching to the SCHS Board of Directors, executive leadership, and multidisciplinary teams in continuous improvement, change management and lean leader behaviors using basic and advanced process improvement principles and thinking. The SCIC mentors exective leaders, directors, managers, and VIP team members in the execution of SCHS Daily Management System. This is an internal consulting position that will apply advanced continuous improvement (CI) tools and change leadership methodologies to drive specific initiatives and improvement efforts that are critical to safe, timely, effective, equitable patient-centered care and to ensure that strategies are implemented and principles/practices are imbedded into daily practice.
The SCIC supports the strategy deployment cycle, including the development and deployment of A3s, the study/adjust process and the coaching and education of executives on strategic A3 thinking. This includes supporting the development of leader standard work for aligning executive through front-line strategy. The SCIC will support executive leadership in developing and deploying systems to support the alignment of the entire SCHS to the strategic objectives of the organization by using advanced CI tools and methodologies.
The SCIC also supports the deployment of St.
Charles Health System's Daily Management System Model, including teaching, coaching and other support as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Utilizes advanced expertise in improvement methodologies to provide consulting, advisement, support, and direction to Board of Directors, Senior Leaders, Executive Sponsors, Process Owners, Directors (or management) and Steering and front-line teams teams to appropriately use data-driven, scientific, problem-solving methodology to identify the correct design and approach for initiatives on continuous improvement, including Value Streams, Kaizen/Rapid Improvement Events, and managing for daily improvement.
Supports the Executive Leaership team in developing and deploying systems and structures to align the improvement efforts through all levels of St.
Charles Health System from the front line to the Board of Directors.
Uses advanced CI tools and methodologies such as 3P, Vertical Value Stream, and X Matrix to develop and deploy strategy and improvement workplans to support complex system initiatives.
Coordinates and oversees multiple improvement inititives from the strategic level to ensure effective outcomes and consistent support by VIP team.
Teaches and coaches Leaders, Caregivers and Providers on A3 thinking, PDSA, and lean tools and methodologies to effectively identify, address and eliminate process related obstacles and to drive process improvements across the St.
Charles Health System and to fulfill true north.
Advises and coaches leaders at various levels within the organization on lean leadership skills required to lead in a participative, team-oriented culture. Models those skills in meetings, Gemba walks, and other interactions.
Creates and administers internal education on VIP continuous improvement to all levels of the organization. Identifies areas in need of on-going training. Assists is the development of VIP curriculum tools and supporting materials, including training to support St Charles' lean initiatives.
Partners with leadership in analysis of business processes across the organization, identifies gaps in the business process, determines impact to the organization, recommends and leads action plans and timeline to address issues.
Independently facilitates continuous improvement teams, follows up on action plans, and assists all assigned teams as needed to ensure improvements are made and sustained.
Builds relationships with leaders and stakeholders to manage effective processes and programs to improve the value of the patient care experience, reduce waste and ensure compliance according to established standards and measures.
Tracks all changes/improvements made. Monitors key metrics across assigned lean initiatives to review past, current and future performance of processes. Provides SVP and Director of VIP and Stakeholders clear measures and metrics.
Acts and a change agent in a fast paced and "ever changing" environment leveraging his/her strong interpersonal skills.
Supports the deployment of a focused daily management system throughout SCHS to help leaders ensure the adoption and implementation of improvements into the daily operations and culture of the organization, preventing regression back to prior methods and beliefs.
Advises and coaches leaders on how to "go to the Gemba" and mentors them on how to conduct effective Gemba walks with caregivers. Teaches and defines the effective use of production control boards and visual management to the leadership teams. Gives feedback as leaders and caregivers learn new skills.
Provides timely, efficient and accurate customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill.

Required: Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, nursing or other related field required
Required: Bronze Lean Certification or equivalent.
Silver Lean Certification or equivalent. Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet St.
Charles Health System's (SCHS) driving requirements. Ability to travel to all SCHS worksites
Preferred: Gold Lean Certification or equivalent.
Required: Advanced knowledge and experience practicing advanced Lean Concepts and/or continuous improvement methodologies.
Demonstrated experience leading complex change initiatives.
Expertise in leading management and multi-disciplinary teams in the achievement of organizational goals.
Demonstrated experience implementing improvement systems to support achieving organizational objectives.
Proven ability presenting information and responding to questions from all levels throughout an organization.
Two or more years of experience in a supervisory role with direct reports, or minimum of two years in a formal executive-level coaching role.
Three or more years of experience coaching executive leaders in continuous improvement methodology.
Experience leading and supporting continuous improvement initiatives in healthcare.
Preferred: Five or more years of experience coaching executive leaders in continuous improvement methodology.
