Job Summary

As a senior content writer and communication specialist for Purdue University's College of Engineering Office of Undergraduate Education, this role will help advance awareness, affinity, and demand for Purdue Engineering through storytelling excellence and expertise across the portfolio of cross-cutting undergraduate programs, including EPICS, VIP, OPP, EHP, Engineering academic programs in Purdue Indianapolis, and Engineering student organizations. With a primary focus on Purdue Engineering storytelling, this senior role is responsible for conceptualizing and producing creative content and signature stories within the brand and on strategy across various media channels. To be successful, the candidate will need to exhibit effective interviewing and emotive writing skills, as well as collaboration and leadership within the creative team.

This position is 100% onsite.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Write high-level creative, emotive content and feature news stories according to strategic brief and within the brand voice

  • Execute writing requests with accuracy and timeliness and embrace creative iteration

  • Serve as a thought partner on the creative team

  • Outputs could include brand creative, stories, news releases, social media content, promotional materials and/or campaign creative

  • Bring brand-new ideas and concepts to the table and work with other members of the College of Engineering Office of Undergraduate Education communications team to iterate and build out integrated storytelling layers across channels and audiences.

  • Create, curate, and publish materials for print and digital channels, including social media and the web, that describe and elevate the College of Engineering undergraduate programs.

  • Research peer institutions and campus partners, their competitors, and target audiences to support creative strategy, identify content opportunities, and inform execution.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, advertising, journalism, public relations or related field

  • Four (4) years of professional writing experience

  • Experience writing across digital mediums

  • Portfolio and/or writing examples required

  • Proficient expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willingness to become proficient in other software

  • Proficient in AP Style

  • Understanding of writing applications in traditional and emerging channels

  • Ability to streamline verbose content to focus main message in a concise, effective manner

  • Consistent quality control in work

  • Ability to manage, prioritize, and meet multiple deadlines

  • Proven track record for creative concepting and iteration

  • Understanding of specific channels or vertical markets as required by job function

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt style of copy to various audiences, purposes or media

  • Competency concepting and presenting creative work

  • Strong organizational abilities, including time and resource management

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with external and internal constituents

Preferred:

  • Experience with creating compelling messages for different target demographics
