We are looking for an experienced Payment Integrity Senior Consultant as an addition to the Optum Payment Integrity Practice in Optum Advisory Services.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct responsibility for the oversight, hands on participation and delivery of large scale Payment Integrity projects/programs. Large scale programs are defined as high cost, high complexity and/or high risk

  • Assess and monitor industry and Payment Integrity landscape to identify gaps and new areas of opportunity

  • Provide strategic input to the development of gap analysis and program roadmap

  • Support program communication plan and execution

  • Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them

  • Require that quality assurance methods are implemented within the program

  • Provide status updates and review of programs to senior leadership

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5 years experience working in payment integrity at a vendor or health plan

  • Knowledge of Payment Integrity pre and post pay programs and process

  • Experience presenting to clients and/or senior executives

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and SharePoint

  • Project management - strong project tracking, presentation and reporting skills

  • Proven problem solving skills (identification of issue, causes, solution, implementation plan)

  • Experience writing and executing business plans for new consulting solutions

  • Ability to travel 25-50%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills and ability to balance multiple priorities

  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing, implementing and delivering on strategies in a matrix environment essential

  • Demonstrated ability to message, position, and present information for maximum customer impact and influence

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities, handle aggressive timelines and work independently

The role will drive client value through a range of consulting engagements to assess and improve claims accuracy and medical cost containment. This role will develop consulting intellectual property, and consulting offerings associated with the payment integrity practice area. This senior consulting leader will also participate in the shaping, selling, and delivery of a range of consulting engagements across the payer value chain, in addition to providing leadership in Payment Integrity market space. Primary Responsibilities: * Responsible for delivering on the strategic direction for Optum's Payment Integrity consulting business * Lead the implementation of the strategic plan to meet and exceed financial commitments to clients * Will expand Optum Advisory Services offerings by developing, marketing and selling new products or services * Establish business cadence (weekly, monthly, quarterly business reviews) to ensure results are met and exceeded or evolve existing business cadence to drive higher levels of performance * Project management and implementation, staff management * Partner with matrixed organizations (e.g. analytics, technology, finance, and human capital, sales) to ensure planned results are delivered * Develop an excellent working relationship with clients, both at the executive and daily operational levels. Drive plans to exceed client expectations and delight our clients * Responsible for setting critical goals and upholding a high standard of operational performance throughout the teams in assigned organization * Establish mechanism to drive for continuous improvement within the business; past experience driving process improvement initiatives; small scale and large scale is highly desired * Develop an internal and external communication strategy to proactively share with clients the value being driven for them and simultaneously engage the employee base within the business * Identify and execute on new opportunities for increases in efficiencies and performance * Apply analytical / quantitative approach to problem solving - knows how to obtain and use data, and comfortable with statistical concepts Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience as a Director of Payment Integrity with a Health Plan * 10 years relationship management or consulting experience desired including two years of senior leadership * 3 years of P&L management experience * Experience leading various Payment Integrity functions such as Claims Editing, Enrollment Integrity/Coordination of Benefits, FWA, Overpayment Identification, claims auditing, and health care Subrogation / Third Party Liability * Strong financial analysis and risk management skills * Experience with large scale project oversight (e.g. conceptualized project, sold project, monitored project to successful implementation) * Documented experience with business development or up selling * Advanced level experience with Excel's advanced functionality * Ability to understand and influence the necessary and appropriate actions to ensure maximization of financial results and objectives; a bias for action is critical * Proven ability to produce superior results in a financial performance oriented environment. * Proven ability to operate in a highly dynamic environment; seeking a candidate who has scaled a start-up operation * Ability to travel 70% of the time Preferred Qualifications: * Financial Management experience * Experience with Tableau or Power BI * Large scale project oversight experience (e.g. conceptualized project, sold project, monitored project to successful implementation) * Strong leadership and strategic planning skills within a matrix environment * Excellent communication and negotiation skills * Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with all levels of management across all functional areas, as well as, business partners through internal entities * Self-starter; strong track record of proactively moving organizations forward by having the foresight to "see what is around the corner" Careers with Optum.
