Description
Performs skilled technical work inspecting City contracted projects and utility construction within the public right-of-way and easements for compliance with specifications and plans, record keeping, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under general direction.
Examples of Duties
Performs inspections of infrastructures such as streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, and rights-of-way for City Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), City commercial developments, and utility capital improvement projects for compliance with standard details, specifications, and approved project plans.
Reviews plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts for capital improvement construction projects.
Inspects site plan developments for conformance with City and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) specifications and guidelines.
Prepares and maintains detailed inspection records, plans, and reports. Reconciles quantities with contractors and plans. Creates and maintains as-builts and red-line plans. Maintains materials notebook and ensures compliance with QAP as required.
Maintains records on warranty of utility and contracted projects; prepares construction-related correspondence to contractors, developers, and City employees.
Inspects utility street cuts and makes necessary contacts with utility contractors regarding compliance with city codes and requirements.
Provides support and technical services such as grade checks and calculations for Public Works and contracted projects.
Receives and responds to inquiries and complaints from citizens regarding construction projects.
Reviews and approves utility and sewer connection permits.
Other duties as assigned.
