Senior Construction Accountant - Construction Division
Key Responsibilities
Assist with preparing Divisional Financial Statements for presentation to Senior Management Monthly.
Analyze P&L and Balance Sheet accounts, prepare corresponding schedules, and prepare month-end closing entries for all open contracts.
Reconcile various accounts to adhere to GAAP and ensure consistency and accuracy.
Maintain accurate Job Costing through proper coding of payables, auditing specific jobs, and communication with field personnel.
Assist with various A/R functions. Prepare billings, reconcile A/R, and assist with cash collections.
Develop and maintain relationships with field personnel.
Monitor daily cash flow and prepare cash forecasting reports.
Prepare and produce ad hoc reports as required by Divisional and Senior Management
Analyze expenses and ensure they are recorded properly per project budgets.
Maintain budgets and conduct periodic variance analysis.
Track all required compliance documents and ensure all documentation is fully executed and approved for processing.
Maintain clean tracking of project expenditures.
Set up new projects and assist with maintaining existing projects.
Complete special projects as assigned.
Work with external auditors, tax professionals, and insurance companies.
Manage company and project cash flows.
Coordinate/interface with the company's cost accounting system.
Review, maintain, and enhance existing construction management system, including setting up projects (jobs), estimated job costs, cost codes, contracts, change orders, purchase orders, and, when needed, customizing construction progress reports.
Review construction contract documents, including change orders and lien releases.
Review and analyze capitalization of costs to ensure compliance with revenue recognition standards and company policies.
Manage process for proper and timely coding of construction invoices (payment applications)
Job Skills and Qualifications Required
3-5 years of business accounting/finance degree and a minimum of 5 years of construction/job cost accounting experience.
Professional written and verbal communication skills.
Understanding of construction cost accounting principles and revenue recognition standards.
Experience reading and/or interpreting construction contracts, lien releases, and other pertinent construction documents.
Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data and perform quantitative analyses.
Adept in responding to common business inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, vendors, employees, and management.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in accounting or higher.
At least 5 years experience in Percentage of Completion Construction method.
Strong supervision of multiple employees
Must possess current valid driver's license and pass pre-employment drug testing.
