Qualifications

Typical Education / Experience:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 20 or more years' experience, Master's with 18 or more years' experience or PhD with 15 or more years' experience.

Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Required Qualifications:

  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
  • B.S. degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • 20+ years of experience in aircraft industry

The Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Southern California Engineering Design Center offers many opportunities including the diversity of three businesses: Boeing Global Services – Aftermarket Modifications & Freighter Conversions, Airplane Programs, and Customer Support. As a Propulsion Design Engineer in Southern California you will be an integral part of the Boeing Commercial Airplanes team supporting all Boeing models both in development and in airline service, including programs such as the 737 MAX, 787, 747-8, 767, 777X, Out of Production airplanes, and future airplane development. The SoCal Propulsion team offers opportunities such as working with major turbofan engine companies, performing powerplant installation analysis and designing propulsion structures including nacelle. Our work includes all aspects of the Propulsion System such as main engines, auxiliary power system, fuel tanks, and the nacelle structure. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: * Lead the design of Propulsion systems, structure, and components to meet all vehicle design and performance criteria by utilizing approved engineering design tools and processes. * Lead the definition, coordination and control of functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and the vehicle to produce optimum vehicle design and performance. * Lead the establishment of optimal system design by conducting trade studies. * Assessing and resolving product/process issues through the product lifecycle. * Leading efforts to solve technical, operational and quality issues that cannot be resolved by the customer. * Leading design and/or providing analysis of interim and final engineering solutions to return airplanes to revenue service. * Leading and working with and possibly directing cross-functional teams to conduct root cause analysis and develop dispositions for complex design non-conformances. * Identifies and assists in implementing product/process improvements. * Oversee documentation of hardware related problems. * Lead the development and documentation of Propulsion/APU requirements to establish the system design. * Provide design documentation for the development, maintenance or modification of system, component and installation designs/proposals. * Contribute to supplier development, test and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals. * Lead development of system components designs/proposals standards. * Define requirements for Propulsion systems/APU. * Define, coordinate and control the functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and the vehicle. * Develop specifications and architectural and configuration concepts for associated vehicle systems to meet customer and regulatory requirements. * Configure or design propulsion sub-systems and components to meet all vehicle design and performance criteria. * Support fielded systems to assure continued reliability. * Mentor and train others. * Work under minimal direction.
