What you will be doing

The preferred location for this position is in Pleasanton CA, Boise ID, or Phoenix, AZ.

The Senior Compliance Associate will support the activities related to key sustainability initiatives including packaging and product chemical regulatory compliance agenda. This role will Interact regularly with many other functions including but not limited to Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, Food Safety and Quality, Product Management, Sourcing, Legal, National Category Managers, IT, and Sustainability teams. The Senior Compliance Associate will be working with suppliers and systems to execute supplier surveys, collect information, document and track compliance, and project actions. These activities include review of supplier regulatory submissions for in-house developed and manufactured products, regulatory activities conducted by contract manufacturers of consumer brands products, and national brands products. The role may interact with industry groups like CBA and FMI and government agencies including the FDA, USDA, EPA, FTC and state agencies.

This position is critical to ensuring regulatory compliance and avoidance of product retrievals and recalls, that can result from noncompliance to product and package regulations. This role may also conduct and deliver other projects as assigned by the Own Brands Technical Services Leadership team.

Main responsibilities

  • Review and approve regulatory compliance documentation

  • Communicate with suppliers and merchandising partners

  • Create and maintain training documents, checklists, and regulatory SOP's, in collaboration with Technical Services Leadership

  • Manage and update tracking tools used for compliance programs to provide updates on progress and challenges. Provide information to other team members as requested

  • Lead compliance systems requirements and testing along with continuous improvement initiatives for the Technical Services team

  • Support the Technical Services team in data acquisition for other projects as required to maintain accuracy of data within agreed upon project timelines

  • Utilize various business platforms and/or systems to provide support to the Technical Services team in the form of trackers and reports, and mining data for metrics reporting

  • Provide support and act as a back-up resource on Technical Services analytics and metrics reporting as well as product registrations

  • Retrieve information and prepare documentation for regulatory legal inquires

  • Assist with other key Technical Services compliance, regulatory, product development or quality projects, as needed

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to facilitate process improvements and support development of corrective and preventive actions to resolve issues found in compliance systems

  • Monitor, interpret, and ensure compliance with US state and federal regulations

The salary range is $80,000.00 to $104,000.00 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.

What we are searching for

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science or related field preferred, or combination of education and relevant equivalent work experience

  • Minimum of 4 years combined regulatory affairs, compliance, product development, nutrition or technical related experience required, with strong knowledge of FDA and USDA food regulations

  • Proven knowledge of state and and federal regulations regarding consumer packaged goods

  • Experience in working directly with a technical functional group is preferred

  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects across multiple categories with competing timelines

  • Strong sense of urgency, time management, and commitment to meet aggressive timelines

  • Must be comfortable with asking questions and having direct discussions of project requirements

  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically and have experience in project management, multi-tasking, meeting tight deadlines and shifting work focus based on shifting business and technical priorities

  • Excellent computer skills and attention to detail, and experience with online specification or data management systems

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Must be able to communicate cross functionally between directors, managers, technical staff and vendor community daily

  • Project management experience a plus

  • Travel: <10%
