Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • 6 years of experience in system-level power, hardware/software optimizations, mobile competitive analysis, or a related technical field

  • 3 years of experience in technical leadership

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with SoC subsystems including CPU, GPU, memory, infrastructure, or power management

  • Experience analyzing mobile phone workloads in multimedia processing, camera pipeline, render and display processing, cellular modem/WiFi processing, etc.

  • Experience with competitive power/performance benchmarking analysis

  • Experience with basic hardware rework (i.e. identifying and removing/replacing components on a PCB) and instrumentation (e.g., DAQs, oscilloscopes, etc.)

  • Programming or scripting skills

  • Communication and collaboration skills

The Pixel Power team is responsible for all aspects of power for Pixel devices, from concept to volume production to post deployment, and for delivering excellent battery life for our users.

As a Senior Competitive Analysis Power Architect, you will be responsible for characterizing and analyzing power and performance on internal and external devices across diverse hardware and software domains. Based on your findings, you will develop design recommendations for both hardware and software that strategically improve battery life across the Pixel product portfolio. You will articulate your results and recommendations across cross-functional teams and to executive leadership.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google's artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $168,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional hardware, software, and systems teams to perform power/performance trade-off analysis and optimizations for a wide variety of use-cases.

  • Define, develop, and/or utilize tools and methods for detailed power measurements and analysis including hardware modification, system profiling/tracing, and/or writing custom test scripts or applications.

  • Propose and drive implementation of innovative power optimization features across hardware and software.

  • Participate in power and performance benchmarking of hardware (e.g., SoC, CPU, GPU, PMICs, and more), software (e.g., firmware, kernel, Android/iOS, and more), and applications (e.g., multimedia, generative AI, and more) across internal and external platforms.
