City of Mission Viejo Invites Applications for
SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICES LEADER
$18.44 - $21.98 per hour

The City of Mission Viejo seeks qualified candidates to serve as our next part-time Senior Community Service Leaders to provide excellent customer service to our Tennis and Pickleball players. Candidates will assist with checking in players for courts and programs, booking reservations, work at the centers front desk, answer questions from the public, and be responsible to independently open, close, and secure buildings.
There are five (5) current vacancies within the Recreation & Community Services Department at Felipe Tennis Center. Two positions are scheduled to work: Friday and Sunday from 6:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and morning availability is needed. Position 3 is scheduled to work: Thursday from 6:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Final 2 positions are scheduled to work: Saturday from 6:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and have availability to work Monday through Friday from 1:00 pm. to 5:00 p.m.
The first round of interviews is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 29, 2024. Only one date will be available for an applicant to attend. The City will not accommodate applicant scheduling requests for alternative dates.
Senior Community Services Leaders are considered Hourly, Seasonal, and/or Temporary employees, and are not part of the competitive service. Incumbents will work a flexible part-time schedule, with an average of 10 to 19 hours per week, with increased scheduling during peak workload periods, but less than 1,000 hours during assignments through the fiscal year starting July 1st and ending June 30th.
The Felipe Tennis Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. These positions may be rotated through the Recreation and Community Services facilities. The schedule may vary on the needs of the City.

Promote Tennis and Pickleball programs and get the public excited about all of our court offerings.
Instruct the public how to register for programs online, in person, or over the phone.
Provide on-demand assistance for program registration while providing outstanding customer service.
Check players in and program court assignments while tracking facility usage.
Promote and encourage tennis and pickleball play among the community of Mission Viejo.
Promote and advocate players to purchase a membership for frequent usage of the center.
Book court reservations, respond to department emails, and provide administrative support for programs and player scheduling.

The Mission Viejo Recreation and Tennis Centers collectively schedule and manage 20 pickleball courts and 16 tennis courts while serving a growing membership base of over 1,100 tennis/pickleball members and over 5,000 fitness members. Recreation and Community Services hosts hundreds of tennis and pickleball classes each quarter and provides dozens of programs throughout the year. The Department is passionate about engaging youth in spot court programs and developing programs for every skill level to enhance quality of life.
Job Related and Essential Qualifications
Knowledge of:

Experience and Training and License/Certificate
QUALIFICATIONS
Equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12th) grade and two (2) years of experience in community services, cultural arts, and/or recreational activities for varying age groups, or completion of at least twelve (12) units of college-level coursework in recreation, physical education, cultural arts, or a closely related field.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Applicants must be 18 years or older at the time of appointment for Senior Community Services Leader;
Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid Standard First Aid Certificate is required within three (3) months of appointment;
Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain a valid American Red Cross or American Heart Association Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR) for Infant, Child, and Adult is required within three (3) months of appointment; and
Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Driver's License may be required.
