SUMMARY
The Senior Communications Specialist, reports to Program Director, Communications (Industry Conference Strategy), and supports the strategy, coordination, alignment and execution for MD Anderson's industry conference strategy through project management, content creation and event management.
The ideal candidate will have experience with content marketing or marketing writing, such as writing blog posts and/or web content.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Preparation and activation of conference strategy
In partnership with Program Director, Communications (Industry Conference Strategy), implement defined tactics to position MD Anderson as the leading cancer care and research institution at major academic medical conferences
Assist with preparation of onsite presence and complementary digital strategy for conferences, including support of operational, logistical and financial aspects. Tasks may include support in managing timelines for event deliverables, support to prepare onsite collateral/giveaways and support with administrative tasks
Contribute to onsite activation of strategy during conferences, including aiding in booth opening and closing and serving brand ambassador during the shows
Planning and execution of special events
Support coordination and onsite execution of special events (e.g., President's Reception), including identification of vendors, support of administration processes and day-off execution
Provide high-level administrative support for process-oriented tasks required for planning and purchasing of conference-related events
Metrics and tracking
Support gathering of metrics across teams to track, measure and report results for each conference
Aid in gathering intel and reporting out on trends in the medical conference landscape
Content strategy and creation
Serve as key member of cross-functional Institutional Affairs working group to develop content strategies for each conference
Contribute to content creation, including but not limited to the development of social media assets, blog posts and web content
Help ensure brand consistency and appropriate representation across channels

Education
Required: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field.
Experience
Required: Four years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field. With preferred degree, two years of required experience.
Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
