ASRC Federal AFSS is a premier provider of systems engineering, software engineering, system integration and project management services for real-time, mission-critical defense systems. We are seeking a Senior Communications and STEM Engagement Specialist to support a NASA contract in Greenbelt, MD.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide communications and STEM engagement support to the Joint Polar Satellite System program (JPSS).

  • Manage an internal strategic communications plan, building on high-impact tactics and managing execution to increase JPSS internal engagement. Advise senior leadership on internal communications strategies to achieve goals.

  • Manage public engagement and STEM engagement event strategy and execution for JPSS, including -managing logistics, staffing, and recording metrics for later reporting. Events may range from major conferences and launches to classroom visits, within both virtual and in-person formats.

  • Collaborate with JPSS subject matter experts to encourage and enable them to serve as enthusiastic ambassadors of the program. This may include developing and giving outreach training and creating presentations with talking points.

  • Oversee the incorporation and development of STEM engagement activities for multiple age groups into social media, launch, and other campaigns.

  • Execute the JPSS summer internship communications plan to ensure all interns receive consistent information and opportunities to engage with management and subject matter experts.

  • Possess strong customer service and communication skills - oral and written.

  • Proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

  • Have the ability to multi-task and perform under extremely tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willing to travel for events and/or customize events for virtual platforms.

  • Ability to understand complex technical concepts and translate them for the general public.

  • Wide breadth of writing expertise.

  • Confidence to interface successfully with business personnel and technical leads, as well as personnel at varying levels of management.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail - ability to manage time and meet deadlines.

  • Possess strong critical thinking skills and be a motivated self-starter.

  • Willingness to interface with Office of Communications to comply with NASA and NOAA media review, approval and release rules.

  • Individual must meet government NAC and citizenship/permanent residency requirements for access to NASA GSFC. Extensive background investigation will be performed as a requirement of the job.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Communications or a related field and 3 years of relevant experience; 6 years of relevant experience in lieu of a college degree

We are seeking an Intern Coaching Specialist to support a NASA contract in Greenbelt, MD virtually this summer. Responsibilities: Individual will serve as the Intern Coaching Extern at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, starting as a part-time role in May in preparation for the summer and intern onboarding, converting to full-time for a 12-week period starting June 1. They will be supporting the STEM Pipeline for Equity, Inclusion and Diversity (SPEID) Program intern cohort for 2021. This graduate student or professor should be prepared to virtually coach students, to bring out the best in their technical work, written communications, professionalism, and presentation skills. * Support the development of the final curriculum for the STEM Pipeline for Equity, Inclusion and Diversity (SPEID) Program at Goddard including messaging, materials, and implementations * Hold one-on-one coaching sessions with interns who are identified as needing additional support or request it. * Lead the review of oral presentations, ensuring they have been through the standard NASA review process as well as working with the students to present their work within the NASA community and potentially externally. * Assist the SIP Coordinator at Goddard with any other support necessary to execute a successful remote internship experience for a diverse intern cohort and their mentors. * Strong written and oral communications skills including communicating technical work to a non-technical audience. * Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). * Ability to work both independently and collaboratively; must be a self-starter but work well in team settings. * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meeting strict deadlines. * Meet government and citizenship/permanent residency requirements for access to NASA Goddard facility. Education and Experience: * Graduate student or professor in English or a related field. * Minimum 2 years' experience in the college classroom teaching or assisting courses. * Experience supporting students with varying educational levels on work-based programs; experience participating in or supporting a NASA internship program in the past would be a plus. * Experience working with underrepresented groups, first-generation college students, and serving communities of HBCUs / minority serving institutions preferable.
