Job Description:


SAIC is seeking an experienced, Senior level Cloud Engineer to support multiple exciting initiatives in Austin, TX. The selected candidate will help the USAF Air Education and Training Command (AETC) explore the many ways that existing and emerging technologies such as augmented and virtual reality, advanced biometrics, artificial intelligence, and data analytics can revolutionize learning, including Pilot Training Next (PTN). Additional projects may include cutting edge work at Capital Factory and R&D projects within SAIC.


  • Designs, plans, and integrates cloud computing and virtualization systems using infrastructure as code and modern cloud-native deployment techniques such as DevOps and DevSecOps.

  • Develops and conducts testing of cloud and virtualization systems.

  • Develops automation scripts for efficient deployment and operations of cloud and virtualization systems.

  • Maintains technical expertise relevant industry standards and best practices in cloud computing and virtualization technologies such as cloud service provider architecture, design, and configuration; cloud deployment models including public, community, private, and hybrid; XaaS cloud service delivery models including infrastructure-, platform-, and software-as-a-service; automation; hypervisors; containers; virtual compute, storage, and networks; virtual infrastructure management; self-provisioning; and scaling.

  • Evaluates and reports on new cloud and virtualization technologies to enhance capabilities of cloud-based and virtualized services.

  • Concept of Operations Formulation, Requirements Definition, Analysis and Engineering, System Architecting, System Analysis and Design, Interface and Data Architectures, Validation and Verification, System Integration, System & Op. Performance Analysis, Lifecycle Cost Analysis & Estimation, Decision Analysis and Physical Configuration Analysis (PCA).

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

  • May utilize expertise to support corporate initiatives such as IR&D, M&PE, or B&P.

  • Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.

  • Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.

  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

  • Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.


Required Experience, Education, and Certifications:

  • BA/BS Engineering, IT, or related (or an additional 4 years of related experience in lieu of degree)

  • 9+ years of experience in Systems Engineering or related

  • 5+ years of experience in Cloud Architecture, Engineering, Security, and Automation

  • 1+ years of experience with cloud automation and scripting (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ansible)

  • 1+ years of experience containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Solid understanding of Cloud Migration methodologies and best practices; XaaS cloud service delivery models; DevOps and DevSecOps; Agile Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC); FedRAMP

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

  • A minimum of one cloud certification is required (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance as a condition of hire and continued employment

This includes AWS Systems Manager, Patch Manager, Cloud Formation and custom scripting to extend the AWS services. * Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability * Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes. * Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies * Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks. * Participate in the design of information and operational support systems * Provide 2nd and 3rd level support for AWS infrastructure. * Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution What We're Looking For: * Looking for 3 to 4 years of experience implementing AWS Cloud infrastructure solutions. * Experience with AWS hosting technologies: VPC, EC2, ELB, RDS, Lambda, SES, SNS, Containers, API Gateway,etc. * Good conceptual understanding & knowledge on virtualization & container based technologies such as AWS, Docker, VMware, and Virtual Box. * 3 to 4 years of solid scripting skills on any 2 of these following power shell, clould formation (must), shell scripts, Perl, Python, Javascripts. * Experience with monitoring solutions, such as: AWS CloudWatch, Nagios, ELK, etc. * Experience working with large scale IT projects related to design, deployment and configuration. * Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. * Ability to work individually without much direction while also working as part of a team towards a common goal. * Excellent written and oral communication skills. * Certifications: * Must have at least one of the following active certs upon application: AWS.
