Function/Duties of Position

The Knight Cardiovascular Institute Senior Clinical Research Coordinator is responsible for various duties related to clinical trials.

The Coordinator will:

  • Identify potential subjects through chart review, discussion with investigator or other mechanisms

  • Assist Principal Investigator in the identification and eligibility of new protocol subjects

  • Schedule, order, communicate assessments and appointments

  • Provide trial oversight for all trials that fall under their specific discipline within cardiology and possess strong project management skills

  • Act as the primary liaison for patients receiving care on a clinical trial and be responsible for the triage of patient needs

  • Provide mentoring to junior staff and is considered a subject matter expert when it comes to certain elements of clinical research conduct

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with major courses in field of research / science or clinical research certification including CCRC or SOCRA

  • 1 - 3 years of clinical or research related experience; at least 1 year of direct clinical research experience

  • Very strong understanding of research regulations and best practices

  • Strong data abstraction and project management skills

  • Strong understanding of the connection between clinical care and the care delivered as part of a clinical research study for patients

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time

  • Strong teaching skills with the ability to mentor junior staff

  • Must have excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems

  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft applications (Excel, Outlook, Access, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of diverse individuals and personalities

  • Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of general office experience

  • Knowledge of cardiology

  • Experience managing databases (Access or similar)

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Analytical skills

  • Troubleshooting skills

VIEW JOBS 3/17/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-06-15T00:00 Department Overview The VA Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) is a professional who implements and oversees Industry-sponsored and Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs) in support of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute's initiatives at the Portland VAMC. Function/Duties of Position The VA CRC is involved in all facets of clinical trial conduct from initial protocol development through implementation and facilitating research activities, to trial closure and project completion. These responsibilities include assisting with components of the IRB submission, to include preparation of consent forms and all other documents required for IRB review. On-study duties include the coordination of all aspects of a study with a focus on subject safety and compliance with the prescribed protocol and Good Clinical Practice. The CRC will work collaboratively with physician, nursing, and all ancillary staff in the scheduling and management of subject research activities. The CRC will maintain accurate, complete and timely records on all research subjects including preparation of source documentation and clinical research data/case report forms. The CRC will represent the investigator during monitor visits and on-site audits conducted by the sponsor or sponsor representative. This position requires limited supervision and assistance. The CRC will have a strong understanding of research regulations and best practices and may provide assistance and training to junior staff. Enrolling patients in clinical trials (40%): Explaining trial logistics, reviewing medical records for eligibility criteria, scheduling study required assessments. Includes processing and cataloguing of human specimens for research. Assurance of appropriate conduct of protocol according to IRB, NCI, and FDA guidelines. Documentation (30%): Completion of case report forms/data entry; creation of study calendars and shadow charts; reviewing medical record and extracting relevant data; Obtain vital sign and electrocardiogram measurements for study patients; documenting contacts with study subjects and vital signs as appropriate. IRB Preparation (25%): Assist with preparation and submission of all documentation required by the IRB of record, which may include the OHSU/VA joint IRB, the local VA IRB, and the VA Central IRB. Miscellaneous (5%): Additional duties as assigned by Clinical Research Manager or Program Director. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related experience.
