Department Overview

The Layton Aging & Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, in the Department of Neurology at OHSU, is an NIH/NIA-funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC). Layton Center investigative teams participate in national and international efforts to understand and develop treatments for Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Layton Center teams conduct studies of promising treatments, technologies for patient support, genetics, neuroimaging and pathology.

Function/Duties of Position

Functions/Duties of Position

This position will be responsible for coordination of studies that are part of the Aging and Alzheimer's Center. Initial projects this coordinator may be involved in include:

accelerating blood-based diagnosis of Alzheimer's in Veterans investigating an innovative treatment approach for women with chronic pelvic pain Imaging for Alzheimer's disease progression

We are looking for someone who is highly organized, motivated, and able to communicate effectively and professionally (verbally including in person, by phone and video call, as well as in writing) with Alzheimer's Center faculty and staff, study participants and other departments at OHSU. You should also be comfortable talking with study participants about sensitive topics.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing for and coordinating in-person study visits including scheduling of study participants, study staff, clinic space, and/or imaging appointments under minimal supervision

  • Meeting participants as they arrive at OHSU, escorting them to and from all research visits

  • Creating and maintaining documentation of study and center procedures and processes

  • Organizing and ordering study visit supplies, performing inventory checks

  • Collection, entry, and management of study data

  • Assisting with regulatory needs including:

  • routine correspondence with the OHSU IRB related to required submissions, protocol modifications, and continuing reviews

  • FDA IND updates, DSMB, and Schedule 1 paperwork for DEA

  • Processing, storage, and/or shipment of biological samples including blood and urine

  • Working with Principal Investigators on progress reports and publications

  • Ensuring that required Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) program trainings are complete, up to date, and renewed in a timely manner

  • Ability to serve as a backup for other Layton Center Clinical Research Assistants to provide coverage for time off

  • Ability to walk participants to various on-campus locations for study visits

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a social or behavioral science, liberal arts, or a field related to the area of research AND 1 year of relevant experience; OR Associate's degree AND 3 years of relevant experience; OR 4 years of relevant experience OR Equivalent combination of training and experience

  • Working knowledge of scientific methods and human subjects research

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and other MS Office programs

  • Demonstration of high level of attention to detail and organization

  • Self-starter; ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks, prioritize work demands and manage time appropriately

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to speak and communicate clearly and demonstrate a high level of professionalism

  • Able to interact patiently and respectfully with older adult study participants, including those with cognitive impairment

  • Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in human subjects research

  • Experience working with biological samples

  • Experience working with seniors

  • Phlebotomy certification and experience

  • Experience with video conferencing software

Additional Details

  • Typical schedule: M-F, occasional nights and weekends, and national, local travel

  • Work schedule may vary depending on job/study requirements

  • Travel between meeting locations including using the Portland Aerial Tram

  • May have regular exposure to noise and interruptions

  • Remote work is available on a limited basis based on study needs
