As part of the St.
Joseph Health System Clinical Informatics department, the Senior Clinical Informaticist provides expertise in clinical information systems, clinical workflow analysis for business needs, and data management to support the goals of Perfect Care, Sacred Encounters, and Healthiest Communities.
Under the direction of the Clinical Informatics Ministry Operation Manager, the Senior Clinical Informaticist is responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of clinical information systems ensuring system and process design achieves Health System objectives of standardization, integration, and workflow efficiency; as well as, supports compliance with regulatory requirements. The Senior Clinical Informaticist also supports ongoing information technology learning needs of staff and providers and is a change leader serving as a positive, progressive, professional role model providing technical and application expertise to support end user adoption.
Provides technical and application expertise to design, analyze, and optimize clinical information systems ensuring system design achieves Health System objectives of standardization, integration, and efficiency and supports compliance with regulatory requirements
Develops knowledge and understanding of workflow and system needs for clinical management, staff, and physicians and functions as a liaison between these stakeholders and the system build teams
Provides leadership in clinical workflow and system process improvement to enhance clinical quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness
Develops and maintains standard documentation of system design and workflow processes ensuring documentation is complete and current
Analyzes and researches issues brought forward by end users, following up and assisting with resolution, including trouble shooting, as appropriate
Collaborates with ministry, regional, and system team members to develop, coordinate, and assist with educational materials and learning opportunities
Supports and reinforces education plans for assigned audiences including end user an super user/preceptor learning
Shares knowledge and expertise with others in support of organizational change management
Provides end user go-live and ongoing support of new processes and system use
Gains understanding of system/ministry data needs and provides assistance in the development of reports
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Excellent listening skills
Ability to plan, lead and facilitate group discussions for workflow analysis, designing new processes, and/or troubleshooting problems
Ability to understand application design concepts, develop design to meet requirements, and track and document system component details
Ability to effectively communicate with physicians, staff, and outside agencies
Ability to lead educational events 1:1 and group settings
Ability to develop and manage work plans and to prioritize, organize, and systematically handle a variety of tasks simultaneously
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals and policy and procedure manuals
Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, including, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and WebEx
Ability to travel occasionally to all ministries as needed to support meetings, trainings, etc.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
Education: RN or health related degree or 5+ years' experience in clinical informatics.
Minimum of 3-5 years working in an acute care setting; prior experience working with health information systems.
Experience in health information system support for physicians and clinical staff.
License: Must maintain a current RN/LVN or other health related license present on hire or obtained in course of employment.
Preferred Position Qualifications:
Education: Master in Nursing or other health related field
License: RN/LVN or other health related license
Certification: Nursing or technology related certification
Familiarity with MEDITECH, Picis or other key clinical applications currently supported.
Working knowledge of process improvement and health informatics.
Project management experience.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, eLearning software or other applications currently utilized in the department.
