Responsibilities

  • Handles claims in accordance with Esurance's Claims Best Practices, Litigation Management Protocols, and state laws and regulations.

  • Applies expertise in the handling and resolution of automobile and homeowners liability claims to include recognizing exposures, setting appropriate reserves, interpreting policies and analyzing coverage, determining liability, reviewing medical records, bills and other documentation, evaluation, and negotiation.

  • Utilizes appropriate tools to assist with claim evaluations.

  • Presents cases and makes recommendations for authority to management

  • Manages litigated claims by developing litigation plans, strategies, and directing defense counsel throughout the litigation process.

  • Makes appropriate material damage assignments and handles initial rental assignments including handling repair and/or rental questions from the customer.

  • Identifies and refers claims for subrogation.

  • Makes appropriate referrals to SIU.

  • Attends arbitrations and/or settlement conferences, as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, negotiation, influential, and customer service skills.

  • Able to work well under deadlines in a changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage relationships with both internal and external customers.

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written with strong presentation skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge with MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and claims related software applications.

  • Superior knowledge of medical treatments and understanding of the relationship between vehicle impact and claimed injuries.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex claims involving issues of coverage, liability and significant injuries.

  • Ability to recognize and negotiate liens

  • Possesses or has the ability to obtain and maintain adjuster licenses in required states

Experience / Education:

  • Bachelor's degree with five years claims adjusting experience of increasing complexity required.

  • Alternatively, Associate's degree with seven years claims adjusting experience of increasing complexity required.

Works within established authority on moderate-to-difficult claims. Reviews coverages, determines liability and compensability, secures information, arranges property damage appraisals and settles claims utilizing claims best practices. Evaluates and sets reserves using independent judgment. Assists supervisor and defense attorneys in preparing cases for litigations. Conducts training and mentors new hires. Responsibilities * Interprets and makes decisions using independent judgment on more complex and unusual policy coverages and determines if coverages apply to claims submitted. * Manages all aspects of investigative activity on complex claims. Directs the discovery and litigation strategy with legal counsel. * Analyzes claims activity and prepares reports for clients/carriers and management. * Establish reserves, using independent judgment and expertise and authorizes payments within scope of authority, settling claims in the most cost effective manner and ensuring timely issuance of disbursements. * Settles claims promptly and equitably and issues company drafts in payments for claims within authority limits. * Develops subrogation and third party recovery potential and follows reclaim procedures. * Analyzes claims activities and prepares reports for clients, carriers and/or management. Participates in claim reviews. Requirements * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. * Technical claims investigations/settling experience with 4-8 years experience in Claims or similar organization. * Ability to work independently while assimilating various technical subjects. * Strong written and oral communication, negotiation and presentation skills. * Advanced analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects. * Effective advanced interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of interna and external clients.
