Adjusts and manages to conclusion litigated and non-litigated complex excess casualty claims consisting of both bodily injury and property damage. Experience in handling premises liability, product liability, construction, and commercial auto.
Reviews and evaluates coverage under CGL and excess policies. Communicates coverage positions to insureds, including drafting coverage position letters.
Recognizes exposure and acts promptly to evaluate claims, report appropriately, and reserve timely.
Works closely with counsel to strategize resolution of these cases utilizing proactive creativity and technical skills. Retains independent counsel when necessary and negotiates to effectuate resolution among the carriers in multi-party litigations. Works with counsel and mediators to encourage participation by all parties in the resolution process.
Documents claim file appropriately.
Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports for management and reinsurers
Participate in roundtable discussions with peers and multiple levels of senior management
Assist in peer review audits and audits of junior staff
Interfaces and interacts with insureds, senior claim management, underwriters, and insurance brokers.
Recognition and escalation of claim trends to management and underwriters
Four year college degree
JD preferred but not required
10+ years of actual Claims Adjusting experience including managing claim litigation and broad coverage issues.
State adjuster license(s) required
Ability to communicate well orally and in writing is a must.
Knowledge of insurance legal concepts and principles required.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail is required
Knowledge of computer software products such as Microsoft Office and ability to learn and use on-line claim systems required.
Familiarity with multiple policy forms endorsements and ability to apply the terms and conditions to claim-specific issues.
Customer service focus required.
Familiarity with insurance regulatory requirements, by state.
Travel is required to attend mediations and settlement conferences.
Must be a self-starter and able to work independently as well as part of a team
