This position will be responsible for the resolution of high complexity and high exposure claims. The position will have increased responsibility for decision making within their authority and work with minimal oversight. This position will handle complex construction defect claims.
Investigate, negotiate and settle claims as appropriate and in compliance with our Claim Quality Performance Objectives.
Maintain and adhere to Markel's guidelines and procedures.
Ensure proper adherence to internal reporting requirements.
Promptly communicate with Claims Manager on adverse case developments and provide information on pertinent issues affecting the lines of business
Contribute and assist in the implementation of a wide range of initiatives, discussion and action plans brought forth by the Claims Manager
Communicate with underwriting as needed to manage claims and to alert underwriters of any significant claim developments.
Effectively navigate through system applications, including those tools that shorten the claim life cycle.
Prepare claim reports and roundtable significant cases with Claims Management, Underwriting and Actuary.
5+ years of insurance claim handling experience
Ability to identify pertinent coverage issues, and apply policy provisions to ensure proper claim handling
Experience in determining contractual obligations, coverage analyses, and investigations
Ability to proactively manage complex litigation, accurately set loss and expense reserves, independently evaluate both liability and case valuation, and aggressively negotiate matters to resolution with minimal oversight and direction
Ability to analyze and convey summations of complex issues; recognize alternative approaches and develop action plans, both orally and in written form
Experience handling complex construction defect claims
College degree required and professional designation preferred
Strong computer skills including a high degree of proficiency within Microsoft Office with ability to multitask efficiently across multiple systems and operations platforms
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to proactively self-manage an active caseload
Travel required as necessary for mediations and trials
