This position is located within the Office of Budget and Finance and is responsible for carrying out the claims and billing processes for various programs within the department. This position will perform a variety of duties associated with the State of South Dakota accounting and fiscal support systems, as well as the Rehabilitation Services VRFACES system and the Developmental Disabilities Respite Care database. The Senior Claims Clerk will become familiar with the rules and regulations surrounding program services in an effort to ensure billing methodologies are properly carried out and claims are accurately coded.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Knowledge of:

  • office equipment and computer software applications;
  • basic mathematical calculation methods;
  • billing practices and procedures and the proper use of current Procedural Terminology codes (preferred, but not required);
  • State of South Dakota Accounting System procedures (preferred, but not required).

Ability to:

  • provide technical assistance to field staff and vendors to ensure accurate documents are produced through the state accounting, Respite Care, and VRFACES systems;
  • communicate information clearly and concisely;
  • analyze and interpret computer system edits to ensure all entries are accepted by the system;
  • create, update, and maintain data and record files to ensure records are up-to-date and complete;
  • run scheduled or special reports as requested to provide users with accurate and timely data;
  • examine accounting codes, vouchers, bills and other forms for accuracy of coding and supporting documents;
  • organize work, set priorities, meet daily deadlines and follow-up with minimal direction; examine CPT codes and provide assistance to field offices in accurate coding.

Must possess competent knowledge and skills in land description and terminology, surface and subsurface rights, ROW document analysis, and have excellent negotiation skills. * Must be able to work alone, make decisions and use judgment while performing related activities. * Creativity, foresight and mature judgment to identify and resolve business, technical and administrative related problems with ROW services. Skills -- Communication: * Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate clearly and concisely to prepare reports, specifications, applications, and correspondence.
