Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a self-motivated Senior Transportation and Roadway Engineer to lead, develop and manage civil engineering projects in the Charlotte, North Carolina office that are focused in the municipal and State transportation sector. Wood is a multi-disciplined engineering, environmental, and construction services consulting firm with a long history in the Carolinas serving a broad range of clients locally, nationally, and globally.

The candidate will be an energetic and highly motivated self-starter who will work with a variety of Transportation and Roadway projects (roadways, streetscapes, bike paths, greenways and sidewalks) for state and local governments. The candidate will be versatile, enthusiastic to work in highly flexible, team-oriented environment and have exceptional communication and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in developing and winning transportation-related engineering project pursuits with existing clients and assist in the developing new clients in the Carolinas

  • Assist with staff development in support of growing project opportunities

  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates in support of client objectives

  • Prepare and conduct technical review of staff, reports, correspondence, calculations, and prepares technical recommendations

  • Produces non-routine plans, reports, and specifications

  • Identifies and defines scope, technique, price, and schedule

  • Prepares, directs, and reviews cost estimates

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Civil Engineering, or related

  • 15+ years of related experience

  • Licensed North Carolina Professional Engineer

  • Experience with municipal clients and, preferably, NCDOT and/or SCDOT

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems

  • Demonstrated maturity in judgement, initiative, and client relations

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to prepare effective reports and proposals

  • Demonstrated project management abilities

  • Ability and willingness to develop business from new and existing clients

  • Comfortable with public speaking a plus

  • Supervisory experience preferred but not required

  • Valid North Carolina driver's license and must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours

  • Flexibility to travel as required (generally less than 20%)

  • Perform pre-bid or other site visits with staff/clients that may involve traversing outdoor properties with steep or uneven terrain

  • Experience in geotechnical engineering design is a plus
