Senior Civil Engineer / Civil Engineer

The Senior Civil Engineer position performs routine to complex engineering work related to the design of water and wastewater projects. Duties include designing, preparing and reviewing construction plans; administering construction contracts; reviewing and revising City construction standards and specifications; overseeing and managing the construction of capital improvement projects; supervising in-house design staff and directing and managing design consulting firms; responding to citizen questions, complaints and requests for information; and assisting in the development and administration of the departmental budget.

This position also provides engineering support for public stormwater, streets and parks projects and ensures their conformance to state and local laws and regulations. A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a Professional Engineer's license or a Professional Engineers license from another state with reciprocity is required for either position. To be hired as a Senior Civil Engineer (EN28), six years increasingly responsible experience in professional engineering design, including three years as a professional engineer is required.

To be hired as a Civil Engineer (EN25) three years civil engineering or related experience is required. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer design software, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Arc View, and must have or obtain within specified timeframe a valid Texas driver's license.
