The Senior Chemist I in Makeup Development is responsible for technical aspects of developing and homologating eye, lip, and face makeup products. You'll maintain awareness of scientific literature, patents, raw material technology, processing methodology, and marketing/consumer trends required to perform innovative product development assignments in an efficient manner. You'll regularly engage with key stakeholders to define evolving priorities and working methods. You'll also be overseeing a safe and orderly laboratory environment.

As a Senior Chemist I in Makeup Development, your main responsibilities are:

  • Create new cosmetic products and new technologies by designing the formula and packaging to fully explore the potential benefits and disruption in the market.

  • Follow through on all aspects of projects from conception to post-market launch surveillance.

  • Work closely with marketing, packaging, scale-up and manufacturing, applied research and raw materials group/chemical suppliers to identify new raw materials and technologies with potential benefits for cosmetic applications.

  • Show creativity and resourcefulness to find solutions to issues which may arise during product development and/or in anticipation of issues which may appear in scale up or manufacturing.

  • Work closely with labs to ensure smooth transition of new products and technologies.

  • Communicate and present the technology of new products to marketing and R&I colleagues at regular meetings within the company.

  • Develop a deep working knowledge of consumer need gaps, marketing trends and about our competitor's patent environments.

  • Provide technical mentorship to more junior team members in projects across multiple categories

To Succeed In This Position, you have:

  • A completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related science is required

  • 3-5 years (Bachelor's)/1-2 years (Master's) of relevant experience required in product formulation including but not limited to cosmetics, paints, and coatings

  • Experience in makeup and cosmetics formulation preferred

  • Experience in surfactants, emulsions and rheology preferred

  • Color, pigment, and shade matching formulation experience preferred

  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills

  • Good problem solving and decision making skills. Displays a sense of urgency and initiative with creativity and flexibility.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Creative and self-motivated. Be able to think out of the box.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Must have authorization to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent, ongoing basis, without the need for legal sponsorship now or in the future
