The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Chemist located in Collegeville, PA. The Senior Chemist is responsible for executing and/or supervising laboratory experimentation that supports technology programs aimed at new specialty (meth)acrylic monomer synthesis and scale-up. The chemist works under the supervision of the Specialty Monomer Research Scientist. In addition, the Senior Chemist collaborates closely with internal downstream polymer customers to understand value added applications in their R&D portfolio and develops target functional groups and molecules that meet polymer application requirements. The chemist will also acts as a resource to Business R&D and internal downstream customers on specialty (meth)acrylic monomer performance and develops an in-depth knowledge of competitor activity and the Intellectual Property (IP) landscape around these.


  • Promotes and maintains a safe workplace environment.

  • Responsible for the synthesis, purification and characterization of novel specialty (meth)acrylic monomers.

  • Collaborates closely with internal downstream businesses to develop an in-depth knowledge of polymer application needs and proposes functional groups and target molecules that meet those requirements.

  • Develops multi-step, high yield synthetic strategies and pathways to arrive at the desired molecular target(s).

  • Conducts multi-step synthetic transformations to make the selected target molecules in acceptable yields.

  • Uses preparative scale separation and purification techniques as needed to isolate and purify target molecules.

  • Uses instrumental techniques as needed to purify and characterize novel target molecules.

  • Effectively networks with other groups to generate shelf life, physical property, toxicology or other regulatory information on new chemical substances.

  • Serves as a resource to support scale-up activities within Dow and at external toll manufacturing facilities as needed.

  • Networks with a broad range of businesses to generate value-added project ideas for inclusion in the technology portfolio.

  • Mentors technologists and other scientists as needed in the synthesis, purification and characterization of new compounds.

  • Leads projects and designs and manages experimental programs as needed to achieve R&D portfolio goals.

  • Develops project plans that are aligned with business objectives and timing for business success.

  • Demonstrates sound strategic thinking and understands external forces that influence monomer technology and project areas of responsibility.

  • Strengthens core technologies and develops new technologies.

  • Understands and is able to articulate the financial models and other underlying financial justification of current and future projects.

  • Serves as a resource to internal and external customers on product quality issues in area of responsibility.

  • Aggressively documents work progress in formal research reports, stakeholder presentations and other communications as appropriate.

  • Conducts regular searches of the scientific and patent literature to monitor and understand state of the art technology in areas of responsibility.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry

  • Skilled in the operation of Bruker FT-NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectrometers and associated software

  • Strong skills in synthetic organic methods

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Strong critical thinking

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Good interpersonal and team skills

  • Proactive and empowered

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Organic Synthetic Chemistry degree discipline

  • 2 years of relevant industry or postdoc experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of physical and mechanistic organic chemistry.

The Senior Director (SD), Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) is responsible for development and execution of high quality HEOR strategic efforts to support optimal reimbursement and access for RIvipansel, with a focus on delivering robust evidence demonstrating the value of RIvipansel, successfully impacting business objectives on a global basis. The SD will provide HEOR leadership to cross functional colleagues from HEOR, medical, access, GRWE, PCOA in setting the strategy and direction of the end to end reimbursement plan and execution of the tactics according to the plan. The HEOR SD will function with a one-Patient and Health Impact (PHI) mindset and work in a closely aligned fashion with the full team to ensure there is a single and coordinated view on strategy and delivery from PHI to the business. The HEOR SD will be a strategic partner to the assigned disease area or asset teams and will work to implement an HEOR strategy that supports the asset(s). ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES * Partner with the global product / therapeutic area asset teams to set the HEOR strategy and manage the tactical priorities to support the value of Rivipansel within Rare Disease. * As a member of GMT or GMTs, influence key stakeholders in the RU and BU to align on the evidence plan or end to end reimbursement plan with proposed budgets * Lead the execution of HEOR studies and projects in alignment with the global HEOR strategy to support and enhance the value proposition for the assigned assets. May include some or all of the following: * Create and maintain global value dossiers, evidence blueprints, payer value messages and innovative tools to support optimal pricing and market access * Develop and utilize cost-effectiveness, budget impact, and health impact model(s), and collaborate with country level health and value colleagues in the adaptation and utilization of the model(s) to communicate the public health and economic value of Rivipansel * Partner with hospital centers of excellence to develop programs to optimize inpatient care of sickle cell patients * Develop RWD generation strategies and execute studies (e.g. burden of disease, treatment patterns, real world effectiveness, burden of illness, epidemiology, costing) within non-interventional study processes in partnership with GRWE, biostats, medical, CH&V * Incorporate humanistic and economic endpoints into clinical trials across all phases of product development to build comprehensive trial-based evidence in line with overall medical strategy & access targets for the asset(s) * Lead the HEOR and RWE publication strategy and plans to support key value messages for payer and purchaser customers * Develop and communicate the Rivipansel patient strategy, including PRO selection, validation, inclusion in labels and inclusion of PROs in across clinical trials, registries, and prospective real world studies * Determine the feasibility of hospital focused Value Based Agreements leveraging novel payment strategies and support patient access * Lead the coordination of input from local country Health & Value teams on evidence needs and ensure that the input is appropriately incorporated to support global market access needs. Advocate for changes or considerations needed in the clinical development program to deliver the evidence for payer and access needs. Provide strategic input in the selection of relevant patient population and comparators within clinical trials to enable successful negotiations, reimbursement, and appropriate patient access with global payer and regulatory decision makers * Support country Health & Value launch in key markets and post launch deliverables including adaptations of global tools such as value dossiers, evidence blueprints, economic models, and innovative tools to successfully support global launch and post-launch reimbursement and access requirements * Partner with country and COE groups to seamlessly deliver the tactics identified in the end to end reimbursement plan * Influence HEOR policies and methodological advances inside and outside the company by leading key cross-divisional and PHI task forces to help improve processes and standards in HEOR BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Doctoral degree (PhD, Dr PH, ScD) or MSc/MPH in health services research, public health, epidemiology, or health economics * 10 plus years of experience in HEOR and relevant related fields * Expertise with methodological approaches and tools (study design, data analysis and interpretation) in health services research is required * In depth knowledge of the technical and methodological aspects of registries and observational study design and implementation required * Has substantial technical knowledge and extensive experience of planning and delivering HEOR strategy and studies across multiple therapeutic areas and market access functions at country and global level. * Has wide professional networks and established reputation within external market access and functional community * Excellent oral and written English communication skills required Master's degree in HE, public health or related discipline; doctoral level degree strongly preferred * People management experience in outcomes research preferred; ensures the technical quality of his/her team's work.
