This position manages a large team of both experienced professionals and team leaders in Certification Engineering. Has oversight of corrective measure review process and of training for less experienced engineers. Serves as deputy department leader and represents department while department manager is away.
Directs the engineering verification/validation processes over a range of commercial aircraft seating products, including document management processes.
Leads a group responsible for generating certification/test plans and associated reports.
Provides input and oversight for development of certification procedures and work instructions.
Reviews technical concepts of major projects including obtaining Technical Standards Orders (TSO's) for an assigned family of seats.
Ensures schedule, milestone, and NRE budget compliance. Reviews test plans of all direct reports for accuracy, completeness and to ensure the correct level of seat certification testing.
Coordinates with company and independent DER's to ensure certification data is developed in a manner consistent with the PSP and established FAA approved practices.
Coordinates with OEM's and STC applicants to ensure compliance with non-TSO requirements. Acts as a secondary focal point and technical resource for manufacturing, quality assurance, design engineering, and certification engineering to resolve certification and manufacturing issues as related to FAA/EAS compliance.
Participates in early design reviews to ensure compliance to all certification requirements and structural integrity of the design.
Supports all follow-up design reviews to evaluate changes. Implements and supports continuous improvement, and corporate initiatives and goals.
Monitors and reports group metrics.
Coaches and counsels staff as appropriate.
Ensures appropriate staffing levels by recruiting, hiring, identifying capacity issues, and redistributing work as required
Performs other related duties as required
Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory requirements for commercial aircraft seating.
Demonstrated knowledge of basic processes for inspection of parts for aviation.
Strong project management skills and experience.
Demonstrated ability to pro-actively define problems, collects data, and identifies solutions.
Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers or regulatory agencies.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Hands on experience with design and manufacturing controls required for producing FAA/EASA approved and certified products.
Candidates for this role should possess a Bachelor's degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.
