What you will do

As a Senior Casualty Underwriting Specialist, you will play a crucial role in providing direction to all aspects of the underwriting function for commercial casualty throughout Utica National. Working closely with the Director of Casualty Underwriting, you will help shape and set strategic direction for the company's book of casualty. Your efforts will be essential in developing and updating rules, underwriting guidelines, and pricing tools to be used by our underwriting team.

Casualty Analysis and Underwriting Development:

  • Provide direction and develop tools for the underwriting staff to effectively underwrite the casualty book of business. This includes developing underwriting guidelines, training materials/programs, and pricing tools, as well as other items to be delivered to the field to assist underwriters in improving understanding and making better risk selection and pricing decisions.

  • Coordinate with the Strategic Director of Risk Mitigation and Regional leaders to address and manage casualty exposures.

  • Provide input to IT to ensure rating and underwriting systems are operating correctly. Help with the prioritization of necessary fixes and improvements to the system.

  • Analyze third party data, industry trends, and market conditions to provide recommendations to guidelines that ensure profitability for the casualty book of business.

  • Help with analyzing contracts and initiating appropriate changes. Assist with identifying additional third-party vendors that provide data that may improve our casualty underwriting process.

  • Assist and provide input on corporate wide projects.

  • Partner with product innovation, underwriting operations, and their respective teams to ensure the field has the proper forms, coverages, and operational efficiency to ensure profitable growth. Additionally, work with these teams by assisting in the development and integration of new products to maintain a both a competitive and profitable position within the marketplace.

  • Provide input to other team members and the Commercial Lines segment on individual accounts.

  • Assist the Director of Casualty Underwriting with special assignments as needed.

  • Monitor the reinsurance-related functions to implement changes to guidelines and processes as needed.

  • May represent the Company on industry committees, interact with insurance departments, boards and bureaus and other regulatory agencies.

What you need

  • At least 8
  • 10 years' experience in a commercial lines role preferred
  • Equivalent Experience
  • 10+ years in a senior level underwriting position.
  • IIA and AU completed.

  • CPCU study and professional development ongoing

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Salary:

$107,000 - $135,000

Additional Information:

This position is a full time salaried, exempt (non overtime eligible) position.
