The FCA Powertrain organization is currently seeking a Senior Gasoline On Board Diagnostic (OBD) Calibration Engineer to join the team at the Chelsea Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Michigan. The Senior Gasoline On Board Diagnostic (OBD) Calibration Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing best practice calibration solutions and performing diagnostic verification testing. This individual will manage all technical aspects of the OBD diagnostic calibrations to meet CARB regulations, identify system requirements during system hardware design to insure a robust diagnostic system, and use standard instrumentation toolsets for data acquisition, storage, and analysis. He/she will calibrate diagnostic thresholds to meet CARB regulations, develop and track calibration solutions that meet system functional objectives and identify system requirements during system hardware design to insure a robust diagnostic system. The Senior Gasoline On Board Diagnostic (OBD) Calibration Engineer will incorporate Design for Six Sigma best practices to optimize system designs, and provide regular overview summaries and detailed reports on specific assignments, including timing projections. The candidate should expect to travel 2 - 4 weeks throughout the year for system validation/verification.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in powertrain systems calibration development, OBD calibration, engine calibration or transmission calibration

  • Experience with ETAS INCA, MATLAB or equivalent advanced data acquisition systems

  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to successfully work in a team setting and independently

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university

  • Hardware in the loop development / verification

  • Database management of production calibrations

  • Understanding of CARB regulations

VIEW JOBS 10/3/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-01T00:00 The Driveability and Emissions Calibration Engineer is responsible for developing, testing, and validating vehicle-based calibrations that achieve world-class fuel economy and drivability meeting current and future emission standards. The Engineer will plan, generate, and verify feature calibrations in hot climate, cold climate, and high altitude in accordance with powertrain system functional objectives along with generating reports to communicate the status of the program to the larger team. The candidate will manipulate and utilize large and complex sets of engine mapping data to analyze and solve complex system problems as they relate to engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, OBD, and base engine calibration development. The Calibration Engineer will work cross functionally with engine development, powertrain controls and vehicle teams to identify and implement calibration solutions that achieve program drivability and emissions requirements. He/she should expect to travel 4-6 weeks throughout the year for system validation/verification. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or an equivalent Engineering degree from an accredited university * Minimum of 1 year of powertrain calibration experience * Fundamental knowledge of internal combustion engines and powertrain calibration * Working knowledge of calibration tools (INCA /ATI), emissions regulations, and powertrain technologies * Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills * Demonstrated ability to successfully complete tasks under minimal supervision * Strong leadership and interpersonal skills * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including PowerPoint presentations to upper management Preferred Qualifications: * Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university * 3+ years of experience in engine development, powertrain systems development, engine calibration, control systems development or diagnostics within the automotive industry * Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques * Proficient in advanced simulation tools * Proficient in MATLAB/ Simulink Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Chelsea MA
