About the Role

The Sr. Buyer position is to have responsibility for managing the in-bound supply chain for assigned commodities. This includes placing purchase orders, managing cost savings projects, follow-up with suppliers on late deliveries, managing pull-in/push-out triggers from Material Requirements Planning system, and keeping inventory liability to a minimum. The Buyer will manage a wide range of commodities as assigned which could include PCB's, electromechanical and electronic components used in the manufacturing of Electronic Assemblies.

What You Will Do

  • Develop long term supply relationships with key vendors employing supply chain management techniques to ensure the timely and cost-effective supply of electronic and electro-mechanical components and support services.

  • Work closely with Engineering on requirements for new, replacement, or substitute electronic and electro-mechanical components and assemblies. Contributing cost effective (already used) components and component sources of supply for the given requirement.

  • Completion of daily MRP output notifications with due consideration given to maximizing delivery schedule such that all material is in house within a reasonable timeframe to insure an on-time start to the building.

  • Assertively seek and recommend cost savings possibilities based upon new sources, substitutions, improved systems, or new items. Work with product development team by providing them samples, specifications, and pricing for their approval.

  • Contribute to stock minimization tasks as part of stock reduction team.

  • Keep the system updated with accurate pricing and lead time data.

  • Responsibility for adhering to the Company's ISO 9001 Quality, ISO14001 Environmental and Health and Safety management systems and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Execute pushouts, pull-ins, and cancellations per MRP requirements.

  • Resolve discrepancies in pricing, logistics, and accounting issues with suppliers.

  • Lead the effort in defining a disposition plan for all parts that are placed in MRB either upon receipt, during production, or return from a customer. Develop recovery plan with the input of planning and engineering. Coordinate the return of defective material to supplier if appropriate.

  • Maintain inventory levels for purchased parts in accordance with established policies and goals throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Manage excess and obsolete inventory by developing a recovery or disposition plan.

  • Generate RFQ (Request for Quotation) followed by cost analysis to determine the lowest total cost of ownership.

What You Need

  • Minimum 5 years working with suppliers, managing inventory stocking levels, deliveries, preventing shortages, and overcoming obstacles.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)

  • Experience working with MRP/ERP systems, reviewing inventory levels, demand levels, and executing adjustments as needed to ensure no shortages.

  • An ability to adapt to multiple software systems quickly and efficiently.

  • Strong mathematical aptitude to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, total cost, and percentages.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret department procedures, general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures.

  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Must have negotiation skills, exhibit collaborative and creative approaches.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence with minimal use of authority.

  • Strong analytical skills and use of Excel spreadsheets for data analysis and reporting.

  • Good understanding of total cost of ownership and how it applies to decision making.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.

Our good faith estimate of the salary range for this role is $85,512.53 - $124,089.00. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other factors. In addition to base pay, we offer a full benefits package.

This position requires on-site presence at Spellman High Voltage headquarters in Hauppauge, NY.
