Description

Job Summary: Responsible for planning and procuring raw materials, including but not limited to steel, copper, aluminum, and extrusions, by representing AAON in negotiating contracts with suppliers, and analyzing market trends and forecasts to ensure the best price acquisition. Work as part of the Senior Buyer Leadership Team across all locations of AAON to ensure growth and create a supportive team environment.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, evaluates, and selects suppliers for goods and services.

  • Analyzes and forecasts the raw materials market to ensure best price acquisition at lower costs than current market prices.

  • Works with Purchasing Manager to identify the best sourcing options for raw materials based on availability, quality, and pricing.

  • Negotiates contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.

  • Evaluates contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

  • Handles the more complex procurement activities that require precise timing based on market trends, as well as complicated calculations and formulas while balancing cash flow considerations against possible price savings.

  • Helps train less experienced buyers in procurement activities and departmental processes and procedures.

  • Works with fellow senior buyers and purchasing manager to develop and maintain a leadership team with the department goals in mind.

  • Provides commodity forecast data to suppliers; establish appropriate order lot size and packaging quantities to achieve optimum material flow and inventory objectives.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with suppliers, monitors their performance and conformity, and resolves any issues or disputes that may arise.

  • Stays up to date on industry trends, price fluctuations, market conditions and new products or services to make informed decisions.

  • Monitors and analyzes costs and finds ways to reduce expenses while maintaining quality and service levels.

  • Ensures all procurement activities adhere to company policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements.

  • Attends vendor lunches and dinners as well as team events occasionally, to build relationships.

  • Coordinates activities with the Scheduling, Manufacturing, and Engineering Departments to ensure all deadlines are met.

  • Analyzes market and delivery systems to determine present and future material availability.

  • Expedites purchase orders & informs departments of expected delivery dates, while ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is being shared with the Engineering team to make deviations as necessary.

Education, Experience, and Travel Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business Management, or Materials-related field and/or a minimum of five years' experience in the buyer role.

License(s): None

Certification(s): None

Travel: Less than 10% of working days per year

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Frequent exposure to manufacturing facilities with seasonal hot and cold temperatures, dust, and some chemical fume exposure.

  • Sit or stand for up to 95 percent of work hours.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
