DRS Sustainment Systems, Inc. (DRS-SSI) is a Leonardo DRS Line of Business (LOB) headquartered in St. Louis, MO. It is a full service supplier of diversified defense systems, products and support for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and other international defense customers. From conceptual design through manufacturing to integrated logistics support, DRS-SSI has a more than 50-year tradition of providing quality systems and products while meeting customer's demands for innovation, efficiency and quality. The business unit also includes a 100-acre heavy equipment manufacturing facility in West Plains, MO. Position Summary

DRS Sustainment Systems Inc. is seeking a Full Time Senior Buyer (Buyer III). This ideal candidate will execute/Generate CPSR-compliant purchase orders, based on approved requisitions, requests for proposals, bids and other similar and necessary documents related to the purchasing of supplies, equipment, services and materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute/Generate CPSR-compliant purchase orders, based on approved requisitions, requests for proposals, bids and other similar and necessary documents related to the purchasing of supplies, equipment, services and major subcontract items.

  • Perform a variety of general tactical duties as required to support purchasing activities

  • Lead negotiations and apply knowledge of commercial contract law and guidelines, practices and requirements to assess, plan and negotiate best terms and conditions and to minimize risk.

  • Establish and maintain sound professional relationships with suppliers. Resolve issues (e.g. pricing, quality, timing, claims, contract disputes, etc.) associated with terms and conditions of service agreements.

  • Understand demand/spend profile for commodity areas, and provide this information as necessary

  • Track and report cost savings or avoidances

  • Maintain current accurate records and files of all vendor agreements and related procurement records

  • May assist in sourcing initiatives

  • Communicate supplier performance including supplier visits as required

  • Be the primary contact between DRS personnel and assigned suppliers

  • Support, communicate and defend the mission, values and culture of the company

Basic Qualifications

  • Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field and 5 years of experience in purchasing.

  • Ability to understand military specs and read blueprints

  • Ability to understand and adhere to all laws pertaining to procurement, contracts, breach by contract, etc.

  • Knowledge and use of price analysis, cost analysis, and source selection methodologies.

  • Strong negotiating skills

  • Preferred

  • 3+ years of experience in DoD procurement, with significant knowledge of and experience with FAR/DFAR compliance.

  • Strong experience working in the electrical and electronic commodities (switches, cables, circuit card assemblies (CCAs), electro-mechanical assemblies, etc.)
