The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will enhance our analytics capabilities and drive impactful business decisions through advanced data visualization and analysis.

Data Platform Modernization: This role will work primarily with data visualizations (Power BI and Tableau) and automated analytical tools (MS CoPilot, Power Automate). The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of best practices, training and support of visualization techniques, data workflows, AI tools and automation scripts to create, support and enable intuitive analysis throughout the firm.

Advanced Analytics: This individual will leverage advanced data tools to create intuitive and insightful dashboards and reports, as well as manage BI operations including configuration, security and setup. This role involves translating complex data from various sources into coherent business intelligence to support strategic and operational decisions across multiple departments. Responsibilities include integrating disparate data sets into a cohesive architecture, optimizing data flows, and ensuring the reliability of our business intelligence systems. This role will work closely with senior stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver BI solutions that enhance understanding and drive efficiency.

Data Governance and Process Improvement: This role will help facilitate best practices for data governance including process improvements for an enterprise data catalog and master data management (MDM) tool. These tools will be essential to support the advanced analytics throughout the firm.

Collaboration: As a point of contact for the Data Services Team, the Senior BI Engineer will collaborate with IT teams, business units, and senior management to drive change and foster a data-driven culture. They will provide expert guidance, informed research, and support, ensuring successful implementation and stakeholder engagement throughout the lifecycle of data projects. Excellent communication is required with the focus on proper techniques to translate the complicated technical solutions for the business.

What You Will Do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable business intelligence solutions using Power BI and Tableau.

  • Install, update, and maintain Tableau Server and Power BI platforms as needed.

  • Manage Tableau and Power BI licensing, site and user access, and tool installations.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, analyze data life cycles, develop data models for analysis, implementation and support of comprehensive BI initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain best practices for optimal data modeling, data sharing and visualizations for advanced analytics.

  • Implement data access controls, encryption mechanisms, and data anonymization techniques to protect sensitive information.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and optimization of data governance workflows to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of data and reports.

  • Support data governance improved processes and tools.

  • Produce best practice guidance and supporting reference materials for BI Community.

Who You Are:

  • BS in Computer Science or related field is preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in SQL or similar query languages.

  • 5+ years of experience in using and administering Tableau and Power BI

  • Perform installation, migration and upgrade of Tableau and Power BI Servers and Desktops

  • Perform performance analysis of existing BI tools and make best practice recommendations.

  • Perform daily operational administration of BI Infrastructure.

  • Provide periodic reports on BI tools usage.

  • Publish Tableau workbooks and data extracts and Power BI Semantic Models.

  • Topology and Infrastructure knowledge.

  • Must have strong skills and knowledge with the selection of appropriate data visualizations strategies (e.g. chart types) for specific use cases.

  • Ability to showcase complete implementation that demonstrates visual best-practices (e.g. color themes, visualization layout, interactivity, drill-down capabilities, filtering etc.).

  • Experience with the preparation of data for visualizations (e.g. data profiling, data cleansing, volume assessment, partitioning, modeling data etc.).

  • Experience creating joins, custom SQL & blending data from different data sources using BI tools for optimal access and performance.

  • Proven knowledge of working with various BI tools functionalities & capabilities (Filters, Hierarchies, Sorting, Sets, Parameters, Custom Groups, Creating Story, Mapping, Custom Geocoding etc.).

  • Experience using advanced calculations using BI tools (Aggregate, Date, Logical, String, Table, LOD Expressions).

  • Experience creating different visualizations using Lines, Pies, Pareto, Histograms, Box Plots, Maps, Scatter, Gantts, Bubbles, Bullets, Heat Maps, Waterfall, Treemaps etc..

  • Experience working with Relational Data from MS SQL Server as well as data sourced from a Data Lakehouse.
