Senior Business Development Executive

Job Description


The Business Development Executive will report to the VP Sales & Marketing and Program Management and has primary responsibility for developing, growing and managing the relationship between DCO and the Strategic Customer(s) as determined by the VP. You will be equally accountable for revenue and profitability numbers of the Strategic Customer(s) partnered with the performance centers. You will ensure that DCO grows in line with the Strategic Plan through the successful management and growth of his/her strategic customers.

Primary Functional Responsibilities (Essential Functions of the Position):

  • Own DCO's relationship with their strategic customer(s) by:

  • Developing effective relationships with all key stakeholders;

  • Understanding their strategic growth plans;

  • Knowing who the decision makers are and their needs;

  • Engaging DCO leadership and their teams effectively

  • Define and execute Customer Engagement Plans to optimize growth opportunities at their strategic customer(s) including successful conclusion of bids and proposals, early identification of new opportunities, win strategies and relationship management

  • Ensure DCO grows through the formulation and execution of strategies and capture plans that optimize DCO's strengths in core competencies, products and services at their strategic customer(s)

  • Provide effective communication to the DCO leadership team on the execution of Customer Engagement Plans, Customer Development Plans, Profitable Growth initiatives and status of the BD pipeline for their strategic customer(s)

  • Execute AOP & LRP growth strategies

  • Ability to prioritize work and meet competing or short-notice deadlines consistently.

  • Motivated self-starter with ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Exceptionally strong oral and written communication skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of the markets and customers served by DCO

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to use Excel and other tools as required, including CRM.

  • Strong business acumen, team building skills and the ability to engage internally and represent Ducommun across senior level customer forums.

  • Willing to travel 50% or greater

Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications:

  • Bachelors and/or Master's degree from an accredited university/college in business or engineering related discipline.

  • Minimum customer relationship experience (10+ years) in appropriate markets with demonstrated results with proven customer relation skills and managing customers as partners.

The Business Development Manager will be a key leader, managing the Aerial Business Unit portfolio and helping direct product development and product improvement initiatives. Duties & Responsibilities * Be a key leader in the Aerial Business Unit focused on: * Market understanding and Voice of the Customer (VOC) needs assessment * Market trend analysis, competitive analysis, and technology assessments to address * Directing product development and product improvement initiatives * Product Roadmap Development and Product Line Simplification * Developing and maintaining pricing and selling strategy * Representing business at customer visits, industry conferences and tradeshows * Defining and communicating data-driven value propositions for products and solutions * Collect and synthesize customer insights (VOC) and competitive intelligence through customer interviews, market research, and industry knowledge for deep market understanding of customer and industry trends and needs, both articulated and unarticulated. * Develop and drive the product road map; initiate product option/feature identification through product development * Partner with sales and marketing management to drive the development, communication, and execution of the business unit's go-to-market and launch strategies * Own the key strategic marketing activities for the business unit, including market understanding & VOC, customer/product lifecycle management and road mapping, pricing policy, product line simplification, and strategic value proposition development and messaging * Identify new and enhanced product opportunities by means of dealer/customer/vendor research and feedback * Oversee Pulse option data by ensuring product attributes and information, product features and benefits, images, market research and competitor information are updated. * Assist in dealer and customer education in the creation of technical documentation surrounding the product category * Support sales and service team training and assist in the development of materials * Lead cost reduction activities in the product category * Build relationships and communication with vendors to ensure alignment * Represent the Aerial Platform to communicate and deliver new and existing product solutions that maintain market leadership MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's degree. * Five (5) or more years of related experience. * One (1) or more years of management experience. * Thought leadership, change management, and project management experience. * Ability to influence change and build relationships with other business leaders. * Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization. * Broad cross-functional skillset. * Very strong analytical abilities. * Ability to travel up to 25%. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's degree; MBA preferred. * Strong fire industry background with fire apparatus manufacturing experience highly preferred * Experience in conducting executive level presentations and facilitating group discussions to tackle complex problems.
