As a FTM Business Development and Solutions Analyst, you will drive projects of strategic importance at Stem's Front of the Meter (FTM) business line. Areas of focus will include expanding Stem's market expansion into new and emerging markets across Front of the Meter (FTM) services
This high visibility position requires strong analytical skills; the ability to present and interact with senior stakeholders and work collaboratively across multiple functions, such as finance, marketing, sales, product development, and operations; and a strong ability to be comfortable with and structure ambiguous problems.
The ideal candidate should understand utility power markets, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and solar economics, value drivers for solar and storage (including financial modeling), and overall renewable market trends. Experience in renewable energy consulting or banking is preferred.
Responsibilities:
Maintain data sets for 3rd party market intelligence for solar and storage across US and internal markets
Assess and synthesize insights from changing market rules and market growth market estimates for the different business units
Drive quantitative analyses to evaluate current and future market opportunities for Stem's Athena platform in storage markets.
Familiarity with market dynamics and programs in wholesale markets such as CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, ISO-NE, MISO, NYISO etc.
Develop frameworks to prioritize opportunities and evaluate the landscape of players and competitive environment for each opportunity
Synthesize complex analyses into clear takeaways and recommendations to build consensus across the organization
Research and interpret market rules and regulations to define requirements for storage operations in new markets
Support one to two transactions per year in prioritized markets by developing quantitative analysis and communication materials
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, math, or similar technical subject (or equivalent practical experience)
2+ years of hands-on experience in the energy industry in a technical or quantitative role (finance, consulting, etc.) with knowledge of electricity market structures and battery technologies
Strong analytical skills and data modeling skills is critical
Excellent verbal and written communication, team collaboration, and organizational skills
Ability to work autonomously with excellent time management skills, focusing on key outcomes amidst competing priorities and tight deadlines
Fluency in MS Office tools and familiarity with everyday data science languages (Python/R) to run ad-hoc analyses
Comfortable embracing ambiguity in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
Limited (~ 20%) travel
