PCMag.com is seeking an experienced technology writer to join our business team. We're looking for someone who can focus on our IT-related coverage. That means testing and writing reviews of products in categories as diverse as network monitoring, virtual servers and infrastructure, or identity management. If you know the difference between an IP address and an IP subnet; aren't afraid to set up a VoIP phone while talking about trends in software-defined IT, then we want to hear from you.
The primary responsibilities in this role are testing business products and writing reviews. Additionally, you'll track emerging trends in the product categories you test and pitch, then execute on related feature articles and how-to content. You'll interact with freelancers writing in the same areas, and promote your content on social media. You'll work to develop expertise and depth in your coverage areas, so previous exposure and demonstrable experience in those fields is a definite plus.
Testing, writing, and reviewing, mainly business-oriented SaaS products, are the primary roles of this job.
You'll stay current on evolving trends and new product developments by establishing yourself with press professionals, interviewing experts, and attending events. You'll help shape and support our business news and reviews coverage, so you need to learn what's next.
With your expanding expertise in the IT business technology space, you'll write supporting features that will cover emerging trends and analysis as well as buying guides, and how-to/tips features to help readers use the products we review.
Writing is the primary medium for this job, but successful candidates will be allowed to explore other channels if interested.
Day-to-day experience with a professional-grade content management system (such as WordPress) is preferred as the successful candidate will need to process copy, edit images, build slideshows, and update existing copy.
A little travel may be required since this candidate will represent PCMag at vendor meetings and industry events.
This is an onsite position. You must be able to work in our NYC office.
Bachelor's degree required; journalism or English concentration preferred.
Six+ years of professional writing/editing experience for an established website, magazine, or newspaper.
Experience covering and using IT-related technologies, including (but not limited to) virtual infrastructure, network and IT management tools, and IT-grade business security tools.
Must be a self-starter who can independently prioritize projects, and be able to thrive in a fast-paced, competitive, deadline-driven environment.
The ability to write quickly and clearly is an absolute must.
A strong work ethic and strict attention to detail.
Familiarity with online-publishing platforms and digital-image manipulation.
Product review experience is a strong plus.
Social media promotion experience a plus.
