About The Position

The Senior Business Analyst is part of the Advanced Analytics team and is responsible for developing a strong understanding of business processes related to the operation of Ameren systems to be able interpret business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements, resulting in the delivery of effective, repeatable data and reporting that drives actionable business decisions. Strong analytical skills are required, must be able to manage multiple priorities with a high incidence of changing requirements, meet very aggressive deadlines and demanding work schedules, and manage large workloads.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Act as a liaison between business departments, key stakeholders, and digital technology teams to elicit, document, analyze and validate business requirements. Demonstrates facilitation skills in meetings with business departments, digital technology resources, and key stakeholders as needed to clarify and resolve issues, determine solutions and identify related process improvements.

  • Conduct one-on-one interviews, brainstorming sessions, group work sessions, workshops and surveys when necessary.

  • Collaborate with leadership on agenda

  • Maintain a knowledge base of key reporting data elements and visualization systems, and be able to query database systems to search for new or unfamiliar data elements, to understand relationship between data elements, to generate examples of data element values while seeking business validation, and to write high level query and reporting requirements for development.

  • Support medium to high complexity projects with minimal degree of supervision. Independently develops and suggests potential analytical approaches and collaborates with business partners and leadership elicit buy-in on approach.

  • Analyze, identify, and direct solutions (process changes and system enhancements) to eliminate problems, improve user effectiveness, and improve system accuracy.

  • Utilize networks to gather pertinent project information quickly and efficiently. Integrate cross-project knowledge, experience and value to make more accurate decisions.

  • Appropriately document knowledge and share lessons learned for medium to high complexity projects.

  • Effectively facilitates meetings, including tracking issues and managing action items for medium to high complexity projects with minimal degree of supervision.

  • Identify points of conflict and appropriately escalate, involving major stakeholders to target satisfactory resolution.

  • Facilitate review and signoff of design changes to ensure design changes meet business requirements with minimal level of supervision.

  • Act as a liaison between digital and business customers by communicating changes to designs and test plans, identifying problems, providing status updates and facilitating signoff for medium to high complexity projects.

  • Leverage network of peers and co-workers to identify and communicate gaps. Proactively identify potential solutions.

  • Identify training needs, along with change management and process implications. Provide input into documentation and training materials for medium to high complexity projects. Capture, incorporate and document business policy and procedure changes within the department/business line to meet requirements where appropriate.

  • Collaborate with various digital technology resources to assess and identify capability gaps, determine solution options, approach and define solution scope.

  • Apply best practices and established standards to elicit, analyze, document, validate and communicate requirements, business processes, and business rules for medium to high complexity process changes and system enhancements to eliminate problems, improve user effectiveness, and improve system accuracy for medium to high complexity projects.

  • Ability to take Initiative, work independently and meet deadlines.

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics or Business Administration is required. Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of education.

  • Five or more years of experience as a business analyst, data analyst or similar job function is required; internship experience will be considered

  • Demonstrated knowledge in SQL, Microsoft Excel, and visualization tools required.

  • Experience creating detailed business requirement documentation is required.

  • Experience in a customer service oriented field preferred.

  • Strong operational business understanding, including potential impact of business decisions on various internal/external stakeholders and systems.

  • Demonstrated experience working with the Microsoft Office tools required.


In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Creative self-starter with strong interpersonal skills - able to work effectively as a team and with various stakeholders.

  • Some familiarity or experience working with different developmental methodologies such as Agile is preferred but not required

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

  • Proven analytical skills, ability to synthesize unstructured information to support decision-making, well-organized and applies robust time-management skills.

  • Knowledge of Business Process Modeling & Redesign concepts and experience preferred.

  • Continuous Improvement skills and knowledge preferred.

  • Certification IIBA (International institute of Business Analysis) CBAP or equivalent preferred.

This role will be key to understanding the documenting capabilities needed to address business challenges. The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for reviewing assigned business processes from end-to-end to identify and address operational, financial and technological risks. Responsibilities will include a full range of activities from leading small to mid-size projects to assisting other project managers on larger more complex projects related to operational business functions that affect team members and providers at the market level.
