JOB TITLE: Senior Building Security Monitor

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, patrols an assigned area to ensure the protection of property and equipment.

Responds to emergency incidents and takes appropriate corrective actions. Performs routine building inspections and documents findings. Performs the critical functions of the Call Center Monitor Operator as needed.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Provides guidance and training to staff regarding building security matters, as designated by supervisor. Relays supervisory initiatives to staff regarding assignments and facilities.

Reviews security reports. Keeps agency management informed regarding security, safety, and operational issues.

Monitors electronic security systems. Dispatches building security monitors and others.

Receives and responds to emergency calls for assistance. Produces written reports and documents security activities in our work order system.

Patrols an assigned area on foot and by car. Inspects buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment.

Reports and corrects safety and security infractions including but not limited to open and unlocked doors and windows, lights left on or off contrary to policy, and equipment and materials left in locations that cause a safety hazard or are conducive to their theft.

Searches for and reports evidence of illegal entry, theft, and vandalism. Monitors and responds to alarm systems. In emergency situations, contacts appropriate Facilities Management personnel and/or the police and/or fire department.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience:

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent; plus four years of experience in the field of building security, building inspections, security patrol, law enforcement, and/or military policing.

Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of building security. Knowledge of fire and building safety. Knowledge of alarm systems.

Skill in providing building security. Skill in responding to emergency situations.

Ability to communicate effectively with departmental staff and representatives of outside agencies. Ability to learn BCPS security procedures and practices. Ability to determine the proper course of action in emergency situations.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The work of this class entails frequent walking and standing, and the operation of motor vehicles. Work requires the exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as adverse weather and emergency incidents. Work requires travel to various sites throughout Baltimore County.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Persons appointed to this classification are designated as Essential Personnel and are required to work when schools and/or offices are closed during adverse weather conditions or any other emergency.

Persons appointed to this class are subject to call to duty and will be required to work overtime with little or no advanced warning. Work schedules will include nights, weekends, and holidays.

FLSA: Non-exempt

SALARY: Grade 07 on the AFSCME Pay Scale ($21.77 to $29.82 per hour)

Full time position available - variable weekday and weekend days

  • 3rd shift 10:30 p.m.

  • 7:00 a.m.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109.00

  • An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.

  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.

  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.

  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.

  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.

  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Benefits session.

  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
